Me, too.
But perhaps we would be better served taking more than a fw moments to try to prevent it from happening AGAIN.
Because it's coming.
i agree.
i've been seeign it coming for years. 1996 wasn't loud enough? or not enough people died?
I was at a birthday party for a freind once... and she hushed everyone( she was throwing her birthday party in the morning). Her grandfather was injured in that and He lost a few good friends...
she was born on nov. 11.
That year I started observing until then I guess that history did not speak to me the way it does now....

1996 wasn't shit. Most Americans have already forgotten it.
Fact is, we've been hiding behind an "invincible" army (having spent 10 years in that army, I can assure you it is NOT invincible) for so long that we can't even smell the blood on our hands, anymore.
But that doesn't mean it will always be that way. Go ask the Athenians.

A friend of mine recently came back from Iraq, he had a few interesting stories to tell. One of them, that I thought was hilarious, was how he was on the highway back to his base from falluja... and he saw some army EOD guys hard at work.
One of them was banging on the tip of a large shell that was buried in the ground with a hammer.
He said he was a little confused by that one, and I would be too.

Sounds like a prank. Empty shell casing.
I've seen similar jokes.

Heh, makes sense. I thought about signing up with the air force and specifically requesting EOD. I figured, I'd rather be cleaning up mine-fields and detonating misfired artillery shells from a distance, than actually shooting people... hell, that would be fun
but somehow I dont think they'd let me pick my job.
that's the problem with joining th emilitary now aint it? :P
Irakis banging on shells with a hammer is not uncommon at all, and is no prank. They collect the copper rings on the shells to sell them later. I get this from a Sergeant who came back just a few days ago.
Here's a small ray of good news: it's believed that John Ashcroft and Tom Ridge are stepping down, and that Donald Rumsfeld and Colin Powell (the only human being on the Bush administration, unfortunately) will step down within the next four years. About time.
My worry is who will take their place.
Looks like promotion time for Karl Rove. And you thought Ashcroft was bad.

I'll believe it when I see it.
Ridge, maybe...Ashcroft ain't going no fucking place.
Neither is Elaine Chou, or Donald Rumsfeld. They are as much a part of the Bush administration as is Bush.
They are, as they say, a package deal.

Karl Rove CAN'T be promoted. He's already on top.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired
signifies in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not
fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not
spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the
genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. This is not a way
of life at all in any true sense. Under the clouds of war, it is
humanity hanging on a cross of iron.
-- Dwight Eisenhower, April 16, 1953
1984 is even scarier when you read it for the first time while Bush fights The War On Terror.

Actually, if your ASVAB score is high enough you can choose what you want. The first time I went into the service I went in with a garunteed job in Intelligence. It was part of my contract. However, I think EOD is predominantly an Army/Marine function.
actually i am considering going back into the Air Force by joining the Air National Guard. I figure working for an air refeuling wing will keep me fairly safe. So I can spread a little discordianism from the inside, and get my student loans payed back, and get a Top Secret Security Clearance again, all at the same time. Woohoo!

Nonsense. Even Curtiss LeMays had to start SOMEWHERE. Given enough time and practice, you too could be killing brown people with the best of them.
no..I think he means that nothing comes up when you google Curtiss LeMays...

Then I suppose you could put on a tinfoil hat, and start printing flax.
But nobody will notice, or care, except certain family members who will sadly shake their heads when your name is brought up at reunions.
Just saying.

Just in case anyone thought that they'd stepped into a nicer book.
And they don't expect trouble ramming the fuck through the Senate, they say.
