Remember I talked about him in AT?
He's got new friends now. http://www.theoccidentalobserver.net/2012/06/johan-galtung-on-jews/
I missed him the first time. I reckon from the name though that hes a teutonized teabagger except that he hates jews too?
Ugh.
It is weird the way the piece jumps from reasonable
Quote
Galtung believes that historical anti-Semitism is based at least partly on Jewish behavior: On the rise of anti-Jewish attitudes in Germany during the 1920s, he says that it was "not unproblematic that Jews had key niches in a society humiliated by defeat at Versailles."
He distinguishes between predicting anti-Jewish behavior and justifying it: "In no way, absolutely no way, does this justify the atrocities. But it created anti-Semitism that could have been predicted." In the same way, he argues that medieval pogroms were motivated by the role of Jews in usury: "The Jews played a role in demanding payment from indebted peasants."

"Six Jewish companies control 96% of the media," wrote Galtung. He included the names of journalists, publishers, TV networks, and movie studios, that he claims are controlled by Jews. Media mogul Rupert Murdoch was also included on the list. "He's not Jewish, but many of the people under him are," wrote Galtung, in reference to Murdoch. "Many of them are fanatically pro-Israel," he pointed out. Immediately following these claims, Galtung wrote that "seventy percent of the professors at the 20 most important American universities are Jewish." Galtung bases his doctrine on an article written by William Luther Pierce, founder of the "National Alliance," a white supremacist organization.
I could see Galtung himself taking a more careful path from the first position to the second and managing to convince someone.
The fact that they had "key nitches" justifying - even in part - anti-semitism is reasonable?

The quote in isolation would read to me as predicting, rather than justifying.
Just as you can say that it is likely that in the US there is a distinct possibility that bankers will be targeted by lynch mobs if things fall apart much more. That doesn't mean you are justifying the lynching of local mortgage brokers and functionaries, who aren't the ones guilty of crashing the economy. Germany went to shit after World War I, the average German was reduced to a pretty shitty existence very quickly and Jews, by and large, were not reduced anywhere near as badly. This was partly due to the fact that German Jews took care of one another and built up networks that patronized other Jews.
It doesn't justify anything the Germans did, but it does help to predict it, if you are part of a privileged group in a place that is going to shit you can expect to be targeted as part of the problem pretty quickly.

The dude believes the protocols of the elders of zion are real for fuck's sake.

QuoteGaltung also recommends reading "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," noting that "It is impossible to [read] it today without thinking of Goldman-Sachs" (see here). Galtung has also stated that "it is hard to believe that the Russian secret police was able to be so specific." However, "while corresponding with Haaretz, he was less decisive, writing 'I don't know exactly who wrote the protocols'"
Oooh! Oooh! I know!

I always thought of Johan Galtung as a far left kind of guy, because of his praise for Communist China, Mao, Fidel Castro and all that. Is he picking up the worst of both fringes now?

This is the first I've heard of him. But antisemitism isn't just for the far-right I suppose.

Great analogy. The leap from far left to far right seems really short at times.

Within my analogy that means you'r flat out totalitarian centrist. I don't think that applies to you. I put American Democrats at 5:00.

Correction. I saw 12 for some reason. Never mind.
Oh, I see. You don't qualify as 12 Merkin time. More like 9:00, if I reckon right. Around my time. 12 is absolute as is 6.

Hmm... when you get into ethnicity it gets interesting. You get conflicting things.
Prime example, the Irish Republican Army is historically Socialist, sometimes borderline Communist. But the common thread is Irish Unification within the Republic.
Now what do you want? A united Ireland or an Irish Socialist Republic? You get conflicting interests... You get comrades against a religious front, and you get atheist comrades who have to align with Catholic interests.
It's really interesting. (I used to be a Catholic nationalist, then I was a Pagan who sided with Catholic interests, now I am a Discordian who says, "whatever you want guys. Your call. Just don't fuck up the Republic as odd as its ways seem to American Eyes."
Sometimes I hate being binational. But as far as Northern Ireland is concerned, American Twid and Irish Twid seems to be in some sort of reluctant agreement. For the good of the Republic.
Twid,
Reluctant Unionist.
Ethnicity does create really weird conflicts. As a native American, I actually find that I have different priorities than as a Black American.

It's been brought up in the past few days.
You're a Jewish American Democrat. You're liberal as fuck, except when it comes to Israel.
Now, I'm a lefty. I like a mixed economy. So, on a totally ideological level, I agree with Sinn Fein, at least how it existed in the past. But, once you start offing civilians, you lose all credibility. And even though democracy is a fool's game, if the North doesn't want to be part of the Republic, then I support their decision. I support any decision that Northern Ireland makes as long as it takes about 55%-60% of the vote.
Elements in my other homeland may want one thing, but unless the people in that province want the same thing, my countrymen can shut the fuck up.
I'm also pretty sure that Faust (who is from an entirely different province) agrees, even though I am not 100% sure (I am 80% sure).

The example of the Jewish American Democrat is also an oversimplification, and a trope, as per my Irish American example. I'm friends with a German American Jewish raised atheist who doesn't give a shit about Israel. It is possible, though difficult, to divorce your ancestral inclinations entirely and think about the situation objectively.
Though, I admit, my politics regarding the North are an antireaction to the attitudes of fellow Americans in Boston of Irish descent, and I feel a certain smugness about being Hibernian Irish as opposed to them. I'm more willing to entertain the politics of an Irish immigrant to Boston, or an American who holds dual citizenship than a townie with a last name that has an O, Mc, or Mul-
I also find the idea that as an African American and a Native American that there are different priorities. It's worth exploring. Hmm... brb.
