QuoteIf we had a for-profit police force, it wouldn't be up to the prison system.

Besides, prisons don't send people to prison. The government does.

True story:

Friend of mine was hired as a prison guard paid by a private company to work in a county jail.

Jail never paid guard company.

Guard company never paid guards.

The entire system nationwide is fucking bunk.

This. Entire communities' economies rest on prisons in some places.

Like... if someone isnt an inmate anymore it means one of two things:

1) Hes free.

2) He's in parole, supervised by a parole officer, with routine checkups and a lot of limitations.

This is just speculation, but, maybe there's a way that prisons are making more money for having people in parole than in prison... i mean, after all, having an inmate means you have to give them food and other basic things that actually cost money.

The stock market suddenly crashes as before, and everyone gets a free release due to lack of funds...

They'd probably leave people locked up to starve.

so instead of paying for their food they get to collect money from them?

all while still having them under control and supervision?

It does seem like they could make more money using them for slave labor than collecting fees every month.
