QuoteOne Texas School Board Changes Spanking Policy
The Springtown Independent School District had previously allowed gender-specific paddling of students, meaning female administrators were permitted to paddle girls and male administrators could spank boys.
On Monday, the parents of two teenaged students claimed the policy had been violated. Dena Jorgensen said her daughter suffered "welts, blisters and bruises" when she was paddled by a male school administrator.
Superintendent Mike Kelley acknowledged male employees were paddling female students and apologized for the violation. Following the complaints, the school board voted unanimously to remove the gender-specific rule.
I'm not entirely sure who I hate more here. I mean, first off there are the parents who are insisting on corporal punishment for their children, only complaining because it's
some dude spanking their daughter.
And then there is the school itself, which seems to feel that having male staff spanking teenage schoolgirls isn't entirely dodgy as fuck, but should in fact be policy.
Furthermore, in what kind of mind does the idea that spanking what are almost young adults is going to be conducive to maintaining order and discipline? I can see arguments for spanking young children - I don't especially like it, but I can certainly why it may occasionally be necessary - but teenagers? Teenagers who are sometimes physically the equal of adults, and so not as easy to physically intimidate. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that spanking as a policy would be very low on the list of things to try unless you have a pretty fucked up mind in the first place.
*The title is a lie. It is, in fact, entirely skeevy.
Grown men spanking teenage girls. The school board, unanimously, approved allowng grown men to spank teenage girls. They REALLY don't see where this is going?
"Hey there Jennifer, time for a spanking, you violated school policy."
"Huh, what did I do?"
"You, uh, were walking too fast in the hallway, could've hurt someone. Okay, assume the position."
I mean seriousy, they pretty much just sanctioned sexual abuse.
It's completely disgusting. Starting from "teenagers being spanked" (REALLY, Texas? TEENAGERS?) and then adding "by adults" and then adding "of opposite gender" and then topping it off with the cherry of "in authority positions".
:vom:
I'm 90% sure I know what the punishment is for wearing a skirt that's too short.
I just can't begin to understand how this kind of decision could be made, in this day and age. People, it's 2012, not 1912. :argh!:
:vom:
Disgusting

:horrormirth:
it's pretty fucked up.
made decent news here in TX. the general consensus is 'WTF is this shit doing here?!'
It's not like this is SOP in this state.
the story i heard was that this girl could've taken the suspension but chose to go the corporal punishment route because she was a straight A type student and didn't want her parents to know. which is even more fucked up, because the implication is that they would've had a man spanking a 16yo girl and the parents would never have found out!
also, the punishment that netted the girl in school suspension which she opted to replace with the spanking was for another student copying her homework, which she claims she didn't even know about...
ooh neat.
i googled the district to find out more about this story and uncovered another recent story about an elementary teacher that was doing Meth while teaching (http://www.star-telegram.com/2012/09/28/4296519/springtown-elementary-school-teacher.html).
That's just nuts. When I was in school, if you were sharing answers on a test, you got an F on the test. You didn't get fucking suspended over it. I can't understand anyone who doesn't see that it is a REALLY sick idea to allow grown men spaniking teenage girls. How the fuck can ANYONE go along with that? I mean, they do realize they look criminally insane to allow this, right?
I'm not surprised. I battled the Texas school system for years, this is the kind of thing they probably WANTED all along.
"ZERO TOLERANCE! JAIL! COURT SUMMONS! DON'T YOU WISH WE COULD HAVE CORPORAL PUNISHMENT INSTEAD AND YOUR BIG TITTED HEIFER DAUGHTER COULD JUST GET IT OVER WITH?"
This is like something straight out of one of those horrible pornographic films I've heard about.

That's probably where they got the idea. These types aren't known for creativity.

I would hardly say this is indicative of the Texas school system as a whole. While it certainly does have its problems, things like this are not a common occurrence. it seems to me that saying 'oh yeah. it's totally like that.' does more harm than good.

Didn't say they were all doing it. See bolded.
:\
so are you implying that, although it is not widespread in the implementation, this is what's broadly desired in and by the texas school system?
Some teachers don't give you any trouble. Others can have the same kid the same year and not get through two weeks without calling the cops. It's got to be perversion. Got any other ideas?
Conditioning the kids and parents to WANT the return of corporal punishment by repeatedly locking kids up for things like tardies and interrupting in class, and endlessly dragging whole families to court, make as much sense as anything, as far as an explanation for that shit goes.
So what kind of "educator" wants the return of corporal punishment? It's pretty easy to figure out.
I'm not opposed to corporal punishment for children of the age that that makes a difference, as long as there are strict controls on it.
this is obviously way beyond the pale.
and it has been my experience through a good number of TX ISDs that this is not the norm by a longshot. I'll grant that i haven't lived in any of the more provincial areas of TX, but at least in the larger urban/suburban areas that i've been to, this would be totally not accepted or desired by any.

Another reason could be that they really aren't cut out to be teachers and just can't handle the average excitable child.
I myself have been in situations where I wish I could have beat the ever-loving shit out of this 13-year-old kid who kept beating up on my ex's kid and had this fucking smarmy look on his face like "What are you going to do, ho? Nothing, that's what."
That kid, I thought to myself back then, needed a fucking beating.
In my defense, I was not a happy person back then, and in a very bad place mentally.

Big difference in beating up another kid and showing up for class late. Just sayin.

I imagine Austin might have a pretty good school system.
You don't want to know about Seguin. :horrormirth:
i went to primary and secondary school in lubbock, san antonio, houston, and DFW, and lived in Austin afterwards.
i'm thinking that shit wouldn't fly in the cities i've lived. springtown doesn't look to be too damned far from the city, but doesn't look to be a real destination location, either.
it just seems inappropriate to roll the eyes and exclaim, 'fucking TX' on this one. (we have plenty of other opportunity for that) but this is a fucked up group not indicative of the whole by a long shot.

Some of that might be a "when" thing. I went to a shitty little school in Columbus, TX and it wouldn't have flown in those days either, but it might now.
