...before it becomes completely fucking tedious? As if Obama isn't exactly the kind of "moderate" MLK despised:
Quote from: Martin Luther King"cowardice asks the question, is it expedient? And then expedience comes along and asks the question, is it politic? Vanity asks the question, is it popular? But conscience asks the question, is it right? There comes a time when one must take the position that is neither safe nor politic nor popular, but he must do it because conscience tells him it is right."
and
Quote from: Martin Luther King"I must confess that over the past few years I have been gravely disappointed with the white moderate. I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in his stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Counciler or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate, who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says: "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I cannot agree with your methods of direct action"; who paternalistically believes he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by a mythical concept of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait for a "more convenient season."
Of course, Actual MLK will be ignored for Mythical Feel Good MLK, which will make that glaring problem go away. For anyone unaware of history, which is, of course, most people.
People compare Obama to MLK?
They're starting to.
It's the whole "50 years since MLK" thing. And a black guy is President. I can understand why people want to do this, or want to put the two together, but any real comparison would be Obama the "white moderate" of MLK's ire.

Oh yeah, definitely. I haven't noticed too much of that, but then again, I'm fighting to maintain consciousness right now. I'll be on the look out for it though.
Grumble grumble work.
That an African American person became president and got a second term is pretty fucking unbelievable considering that less than one lifetime ago Obama couldn't have sat in the front of a bus let alone the Oval Office. They don't seem all that close on political positions, as Cain points out... but its still quite an achievement.
Martin Luther King - supporter of the American military!

QuoteDr. King would be proud to see our Global Strike team - comprised of Airmen, civilians and contractors from every race, creed, background and religion - standing side-by-side ensuring the most powerful weapons in the U.S. arsenal remain the credible bedrock of our national defense. . . Our team must overlook our differences to ensure perfection as we maintain and operate our weapon systems. . . Maintaining our commitment to our Global Strike team, our families and our nation is a fitting tribute to Dr. King as we celebrate his legacy.
Um, yeah, about that....
Hey, if a guy who promotes indefinite detetion and drone strikes can win the Nobel Peace prize... Then meet the new PACIFISMâ„¢.
"Compassionate conservatism". Deja vu.
QuoteMaya Angelou, when asked what MLK, Jr. would say to President Obama today, told Piers Morgan, "I think Dr. King would have said 'Continue. Be loving and be strong. Be fierce, and be kind. And don't give in and don't give up."

I'm fairly sure MLK would have said something more like, "I have a dream where you don't drone strike the shit out of children in Pakistan, asshole."
