I am not getting eggs, milk, and bread, and you CAN'T MAKE ME.

Also, where is Aput these days? I need to have a word with him.

I always assumed it was milk sandwiches.

I bought canned goods.

They are high calorie for superior artctic survival, more shelf stable than baked goods or dairy, and can be thrown or swung as melee weapons in a pinch.

I'm pretty sure Navyguy bought for the zombie apocalypse, should it happen in the snow. A lot of frozen food...why? Power goes out, they're going out on the fire escape.

Okay, now I'm pissed about the storm AND hungry for some goddamned french toast!

I'm pissed that no one seems to know what exactly is coming other than snow.

The forecast?

2-24" for Providence.

Yep. Fuck you, February. Do your worst. I know this is all winter has left. In 3 weeks, the crocuses will be up.

In Maine it is 12"-24".  Starting Thursday night.  My plane flies into Portland late Thursday night, which means there is a decent shot I'm sleeping on a bench at DCA Thursday night.

That's how I know they're talking out of their ass.

1: Maine always gets more than Rhode Island. Simple geography shows you that.
2: Ridiculous ranges of numbers.
3: I've heard Friday, not Thursday.

As of right now, they're saying Providence is on the 6-12"/3-6" line on the Weather Channel.
NOAA says 1-2' "possible".
The local news says we're all going to be snowed in for 2 weeks like in 1978 and all freeze to death.

My bet is on 8" in Providence. 16" in Boston. 24" in Worcester. 4" on the Cape.

Those are my numbahs.

Don't you know?

It's the anniversary of 1978, therefore, we are all going to die.

Then again, knowing Providence's competence for snow removal, we might....but I've seen worse. I was stuck here in 2003 for that bullshit visiting Herbert for the weekend, and it was my first winter since I was 4. Ever use a snowblower on a 45* incline driveway? Woof. Once we successfully flagged down a bulldozer to get enough snow out of the way to get the cars out, it froze...over the de-ice. It was a slip-n-die right into a road the senators screamed up from 146 to cut through to the Statehouse. Pulling 60mph, uphill to Douglas Ave. Piece of shit. I almost got run over by Patrick Kennedy twice.

2005 was also terrible. I could not walk safely from Orms St to Providence Place for work, so I had to take the bus. (I'm talking about the snow, here, not the ghetto.) There were walls of the stuff on the sidewalks. The bus would pass me at the stop, because I couldn't stand where I "had to stand to get picked up."

In 2011 when I lived over in Elmwood before moving back to the Hill, the bus stop was gone for the entire month of January, and I would have to get off the bus at JWU on Weybosset and walk over to Westminster. A block, right? A block that Providence neglected until the universities said, 'FUCKING CLEAN THIS SHIT UP.' JWU had spotless sidewalks, and the entire street was a mess. They paid for a cop to do detail rather than just getting plows and bulldozers out.

Kennedy Plaza was totally clear though...Dicks.

...I'm pretty sure I know why I hate snow so much, now. Because I kinda liked it the 2 years I was in Gansett.

The only thing I'm genuinely nervous about is URI not cancelling classes tomorrow, and the big slam hitting during my Latin class, and me, being stranded in South County unless they keep the RIPTA buses moving. Which they sometimes do. I mean, they did during the hurricane, even though all the Dunkins in the state closed.

But, my house is stocked. We were going to hit the brew store tonight for supplies to keep us busy tomorrow, IF it doesn't hit tonight while Navyguy is driving up here. On the bright side, if he gets stuck with me, he has almost 3 months of accumulated leave to burn that he loses if he doesn't use, so he just gives them a call.

So, long story short, it's gonna snow a bit in New England in early February?

That's crazy talk. :lulz:

Indeed.  You'd think we'd be used to it by now.  But no.

At least I don't watch the local news in the morning anymore.  But this shit has even infected NPR.

It's not a real snow panic until the stores are running out of bread and milk.

Also: Bread and milk? The two things that will spoil or go stale in about 12 hours, especially if there's a power outage.

Good thinking.

Pfft, what does logic or facts have to do with it?  SNOW IS ON THE WAY, AND WE WILL ALL DIE.

Seriously though, every damn time.  I don't even watch weather reports, and I can tell when snow is on the way, because I can't get a loaf anywhere.

At least Boston maintains their roads.

Providence hides under a blanket and wishes it all away until people start suing the city.

Remember when I said Providence hides under a blanket and wishes it away? Behold. My roads have been untouched the entire time. We are completely snowed in from all passages without access to the main road. Plows were apparently abandoned last night, and state and city DOT plows notoriously do not work Sundays. Verdict: We're fucked.

So we did what any sane person would do...made a blanket fort and tacos.

Hope everyone else did okay! We did not lose power, just internet for about 12 hours.

I'm in a spaghetti tank. Got to walk the dog before it gets too hot.  :x

You can have this if you want it.

Our road JUST got plowed, at 10pm, 2 days after the storm. :/

Why don't you get yourself a snowblower?  Makes quick work of that shit, and saves your back.

Gravel driveway. My car and house windows don't respond well to high-velocity projectiles.

At least I don't watch the local news in the morning anymore.  But this shit has even infected NPR.

One of my friends listens to NPR when he's driving to/from work, and told me that he heard an interview with some spag who said something to the effect of, 'Not so long ago, snow was just something to be expected in New England. We knew it was coming, we knew how to cope with it, it wasn't really a problem. Apparently we've all completely forgotten how to deal with our weather.'

And on the subject of bread and milk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6zaVYWLTkU

I bought beer and made a 4-day supply of vindaloo instead.
