Hey, those of you who have been through it; I am thinking about taking public speaking concurrently with writing next term. My question is, is it kosher to adapt papers from the writing class for use as presentations in the public speaking class, or is that considered a form of cheating?
I hope it's not, because I'm hoping to bore the shit out of both my writing class and my public speaking class with papers on topics from my psychology class.
It was kosher at my college, so long as both profs were aware. And it didn't apply to major things like midterms and shit.

I don't know how on Earth that could be considered cheating. When I took public speaking, both undergrad and graduate level, the whole idea was for you to speak/present on something for which you have interest/passion. One would also expect in a writing class, you are writing about interests/passions.
Indeed, that shows a motivation for integrated learning, which an educational institution worth its salt would applaud, not punish.

That's basically what I'm hoping for at my school, and now my friend who is a professor and my friend who is a psych senior at a different university are arguing over it. :lol: She doesn't know he's a professor, though, and he hasn't mentioned it, which makes the conversation slightly painful to watch unfold. Ouch.
Nonetheless, I think I have the validation I needed, which is that I can legitimately reinforce the research I do for one class by expanding it for another, which will help deepen my knowledge of the topics that are interesting to me. Thanks!

Morally speaking. You'd best look into your school's policies.
I did this once without either professors' knowledge. One was so proud that he displayed my project in the halls, where of course the other professor found it.
But here's the catch, their syllabuses for the two courses I was taking were identical. That insult was part of my wily plan to begin with.
While my GPA took a beating, one of the professors got fired over it.

Next quarter, there was a very public announcement that a new policy was being added to the student handbook.
My answer to this was going to be "your classmates are fools. You should eat them."
However, I see this is not about the derptinas you attend school with. Nevertheless, my advice still stands.

Especially with the ones in Stats whose "questions" all seem to boil down to "but that's not
