Villager's a fix it kind of girl, so this isn't really a thing between us. She likes pointing out the nail too.

:lulz: I usually have a detached, utilitarian approach to my own thought processes and problems. Probably because I was treated for clinical depression at a young age and learned to see emotions as being separate from my ego, as something that could harm or impair me, rather than as a part of me to be validated.

So I'm ALWAYS looking for the nail, when sometimes there is none. Or I've convinced myself that I took care of the nail, so there obviously can't be another one that's bothering me.

:lulz: Miraculously, my computer actually let me watch that.

I liked that and hated it at the same time; I liked it because I tend to want to fix things and find it baffling when people of any gender just want to complain about their situation but DON'T want to do anything about it, and hated it because most of the time when someone says she just wants someone to listen and not try to "fix it", it's because SHE ALREADY KNOWS WHAT SHE HAS TO DO and just wants to vent about shit in the meantime, and it's fucking condescending as hell to try to tell her what she "should do". She's a grownup, she knows. She just wants to talk about it.

But I think pretty much all of the people here get that.

Yeah, but it was BRILLIANT satire, even if the subject itself is not one that is easy to laugh at.

I think in her case she doesn't want to do anything about it.  :lulz: :lulz: :lulz:

Yeah, it's sort of framed as not only avoiding the problem, but actually offended that someone might want to address the problem instead of sharing in their pain, both immediate and existential. Plus, the use of language that tries to deflect away from the problem in favor of moping ("I just don't know if it's ever going to stop").

I'd kind of like to see how this skit would look with the genders flipped.

Yeah, it's a good skit, the only problem I have with it is that it's framed as a gender thing. So, while it's totally funny as applied to people who just want to complain and not do anything constructive to change their situation, the sexist context detracts from the funny.

Quote"Don't try to fix it. I just need you to listen." Every man has heard these words. And they are the law of the land. No matter what.
