I remember when they used to talk like that about Chelsea Clinton.

When she was TWELVE.

This happened at the Olympics. Happens in the WNBA. Everywhere. Women's fucking GOLF. I'm going to rage flail quietly and stop typing fuck over and over again.

Also, according to Suu, "the majority of men are filthy misogynists" because of this.

But it's not me, it's just "the majority, not all".

I think I can name this tune in TWO NOTES!

Not really the point, of course.

But as funny as that is, Suu's response made it even more horrormirthy, especially given the Aini-esque rationalization of her statement.

In the span of my entire life, I can say I've never known a man who actually watched tennis.
Or one who would complain about a woman who looked like that.

Nice. I got that at work today too. With the "you must appreciate the attention, since you ugly" smirk-wink combo. But dude. Generalizations and tarring everyone with the same brush . . . it's easy to feel ganged up on and that the bad outnumbers the good but that's why we need to nip that feeling in the bud and not perpetuate the stupid.

Bleh. I'm pissed too. But out of coherency.

Yep. And every female politician ever. Because the idea that females have no value if they aren't pretty is so ingrained. Even Margaret Thatcher and Ann Coulter. And you know, the thing is, it fucking stabs me in the gut a little whenever someone refers to "Mann Coulter" or talks about thinking about Thatcher to cool down arousal, because THE PROBLEM WITH THEM ISN'T WHAT THEY LOOK LIKE. And the message is, if you, as a woman, aren't fuckable... your ideas aren't worth listening to.

Also, fucking hell. MANY men do eye women as pieces of meat, because they've essentially been programmed to do so, much like MANY women have been programmed to think of their own value only in terms of attractiveness, and men in terms of financial support. This is a sad reality. Neither is OK, and the thing is, emphasizing the DIVISIONS is the worst possible response. Again, calling to the Common Walls project on this one. I know "those" men are out there, but the men I know and love are not like that, and the more of US (men and women who see each other as equals)  there are, the less power THEY (men and women who see each other as adversaries) there will be... and further, the less comfortable they will feel expressing their bullshit divisions, and in turn, the less future generations will pick up on them.

There's a perfectly normal biological/psychological reaction to hawt and a corresponding aversion to hideous. Both women and men respond to this hardwiring.

There's also a newfangled intellectual reaction to smart. The two things should bear absolutely no relation to one another but, unfortunately, this is often not the case, especially when you factor in teh stoopid.

Society works along the same lines, given that it's a meta-property of dumb apes.

It is what it is. Net change seems positive but dragging knuckles slow the process  :kingmeh:

Why would you want to reprogram your own basic mating response? I happen to like mine. Hawt chicks are awesome to look at. The important bit for me is to separate OMG - instaboner from any non superfluous judgement calls. So we arrive at "wouldn't want to fuck person A but they're wicked smart and fun to be around" or "Person B has nice tits but drones on about retarded banal shit til you just want to punch yourself unconscious."

For a lot of guys they'd pick Person B over Person A even if it was just to hang out in the friendzone. The phrase "Dick does the thinking" is a real thing.

It's not an answer. It's the opposite of an answer. Hardwiring - drives society - reinforces hardwiring. It's a feedback loop that makes the problem even harder to solve.

The desire to mate doesn't inherently drive all interactions, though. There are other drives, such as companionship, nurturing, and protection, which influence human interactions. While we do naturally favor attractive people, the behavior we're talking about here - hatred and reviling of a normally-attractive young woman because she is considered less desirable than another woman - is driven by a deeply rooted cultural misogyny that has its foundation in the societal disempowerment and subjugation of women, which is not hardwired in the slightest. And, while there are some universals to what humans find attractive, standards of beauty are very cultural.

Yep, mine's definitely not the ass it used to be.
...Funny, though, I like girlfriendo's ass because it is attached to girlfriendo.
Sexual attraction's about the person.  For me, it seems to happen regardless of whether they gain weight, lose weight, lose hair (in the cases of the guys I find hot), or lose any teeth.
Nor does LACK of sex appeal mean I won't take a person seriously.

...I wonder to what degree media fucks with the male process of desire.
I know that men are supposed to be more visually-oriented...but  that really seems to be a young guy thing.  Hopefully, by the time they have hit their 40's they've found other things more important about a woman than a perfect pair of tits.
...Or in the case of gay men, something that outranks huge  arms and a ten-inch cock...
...Not that either's ever a BAD thing (unless you're out of lube in the case of the latter), but there's more important factors.

I've been pretty much without TV for 5 years now, it really helps things.

A person's value doesn't lie in their sexual desirability. That's all.

Even if you are so fortunate as to be born with the genetics and access to food/living conditions that will make you turn out beautiful, you won't STAY beautiful. Nobody stays beautiful. We might still be attractive to our mates, but that's irrelevant.

Our value does not lie in our sexual desirability.

Pretty much looks fade away. Also there's a big pet peeve of mine that if you don't look like Brad Pitt you can't enjoy sex, or something retarded like that.

A smart-ass sense of humor, though, and there's a lot to be said for that.

She does not mind my
Wheelchair, nor I her iron lung
Her stroke-slack face
and lolling trout-like tongue

My baby is a hottie
The prettiest in the home
But when we get our monkey on
The staff all puke and groan

They don't know what I know
They don't know the truth
Age doesn't stop the FABULOUS
And we are living proof.

Yeah, because the thing is, we're all born with butts, and we all get old and for roughly half our lives nobody wants to look at our butts, so we better bring some other value to the table, and bitches better recognize.

This, and the fact that most people have interactions other than fucking. Like have conversations. Even if they're young.

Yeah, it's amazing, but even young people can think and have value outside of their reproductive ability!

Oh, gods, I saw this shit.

and I was neither surprised or alarmed, as it happened with Zoe Smith at the olympics (weight lifter) and anyone who hasn't been airbrushed within a inch of their life. I doubt that if Rafa Nadal was the opposite of his culturally sanctioned HAWT (godamn, dat ass)  that he'd get told that he was too unpretty to deserve a Grand Slam title.

As for the nature, age, etc of the scrotes making such comments I would guess that it's more common than Roger would think it was and misogyny in general isn't as blanket as Suu's hyperbole buuuut this is why we need Nigel to take over the Social Sciences dept in her first act as Supreme Dark Empress of ALL THE THINGS and do research on the guys who make these comments so we can get numbers.

I was a little pissed though, but that's just a general day bein a gal who is plugged into that kind of stream of information about depressing shit that should have gone the way of glam rock.

REPUBLICANS! UTERUS CONTROL! SOME STUPID ASSHOLE UPSETS RAPE SURVIVORS BY SAYING SOMETHING STUPIDLY STUPID! (at least once a month, sometimes more) MAN KILLS WIFE,  WORLD IS SURPRISED! (despite 2 deaths a week from domestic violence in the UK alone.) 75% of ISLAMOPHOBIC ATTACKS IN THE STREET IN THE UK ARE AGAINST WOMEN WEARING SOME FORM OF ISLAMIC DRESS!

I can't think every single dude evar is a complete jackwad and a hateful misogynist.

But I reckon a LOT of dudes are misogynist kind of in a white lady purse clutching racism way, yanno, an assumption / cultural meme of bad signal they've never questioned.

Also, read the comments on any guardian CiF piece about feminism and watch the bullshit pile up.

I might have skewed filters, but they are of my experience, and Nigel hasn't conquered ALL THE THINGS to get me some harder figures.
