Title: Something to consider.
Post by: Doktor Howl on July 11, 2013, 07:49:02 PM
Gotta say, this isn't an accurate picture of most Americans anymore:

How to get them from 2 to 3?
Do people even get PISSED OFF anymore? I mean, other than going home and kicking the cat for what their boss did that day.

Yeah... top pic is what a certain very loud portion of Americans think they want America to be.

What it is, is on the list of things they can't look at.

People get from two to three by seeing other people out there BEING ALL FREE WITHOUT PERMISSION and seeing that if they get up and do something it's statistically unlikely that they'll be the one getting shot.

Nope.  I don't buy that for a moment.

I think people are too intimidated by the size of the problem, and the volume of the statists among them.

I would argue it's more like:   :kingmeh:

I think most people just don't give a fuck.

And the little crown on his head :kingmeh: is where people take a sort of weird, perverse pride in how many fucks they don't give.

I think in addition to the being intimidated by the heaping size of the problems, people also have a mentality where they are content to simply carve out what they can for their own family from this madness. "If me and mine have what we need, you and yours are on your own."

I don't think I know anyone who doesn't give a fuck.

I DO know loads of people with emotional fatigue who are looking for easy answers.  That's generally a really bad thing.

This is probably more accurate. Some people (i.e. hipsters) affect an air of aloof unconcern, but that's pretty transparently a coping mechanism. They feel overwhelmed, and retreat into superficiality.

Like the man said: (http://youtu.be/WINDtlPXmmE)

QuoteWe know things are bad, worse than bad. They're crazy, it's like everything everywhere is going crazy so we don't go out anymore. We sit in the house, and slowly the world we're living in is getting smaller and all we say is "Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel belted radio iPhone and I won't say anything, just leave us alone."

Critical mass.
Where does a 900-pound gorilla go? anywhere it wants.
...We'll see what happens.

They do, and they are, but  you have to remember that in the last 30 years the soundtrack the media is playing has changed to "Protesting does no good. Nobody can see you protest, anyway. It's an empty gesture. Protesters are hypocrites who benefit from the very system they're protesting against. Stay indoors. Dissent is futile. Nobody else is upset. Don't stand in the way of progress. Only hipsters protest. Protesting is just a fashion statement. You don't want to be like them. The economy is improving. The economy is improving. The economy is improving"

If you hear about a protest, don't bother  looking for it on the evening news. It won't be covered. It never happened. It doesn't exist. The protest is a lie. Drink Coke.

Nigel, that sounds like the beginning of a major rant.

It could be. It might also get spliced into some other shit.
