That was a fantastic interview and makes the book sound SO much more interesting! Aslan's obvious enthusiasm for the subject and admiration for the man kind of belies the presuppositions of the poor clueless Fox interviewer.

Fox : WHY DO YOU HIDE THE FACT YOU ARE MUSLIM??

Aslan : *confused blink* Ma'am, I think you haven't read the book. I explain that I am Muslim on the SECOND PAGE of my book.

Fox : We have to go. Thank you for coming.

Is the interviewer a Muslim? If not, why would she interview one?

Fox has gotten extra sad lately, I think. She would probably cry if you asked this question.

FURTHER IRONY:

Reza Aslan did his PhD thesis under Mark Juergensmeyer, an expert on religious terrorism, and it was on the topic of global jihadism.

:lulz: So he could have talked to them about any number of other things he's written, and they'd gobble that shit up.

I got a distinct vibe of someone who came fully prepared to troll the fuck out of the interview from that video.

Yeah, the interviewer herself didn't have any independent thought or questions on the subject. All she wanted to do was read Tweets and comments about what OTHER people were saying about the book. What the hell is the point of that?

Yeah, I don't get that either.  Why have him on if you're going to just read tweets?  I loved that he wouldn't let her dictate the direction of the conversation though.  He definitely made her out to be an idiot.

Kinda makes me want to read everything he's written, ever. :P Achievement unlocked.

Yeah, and on the whole, I'd rather him get what he wanted than Fox getting what they want.  :p
