In fact, the funniest thing about the teabaggers is that their insanity has invalidated ANYONE acting pissed off about the government, which is PROBABLY what the Koch brothers had in mind all along. So fuck them, I'm going to be pissed off, and I'm not going to worry about what conclusions idiots draw from it.
Syria. There's no fucking point to it. If we were going there to save lives (HA!), we'd have ALREADY GONE. This dicking around ensures that when we DO go, it will be TOO FUCKING LATE to accomplish anything other than handing out no-bid contracts to the usual suspects, and maybe having some chemical weapons casualties to chuck into the dumpster we call "the VA". People don't care about civil rights unless they have some sort of vested interest in them, generally speaking. Doesn't affect them. Now doesn't affect me works in certain circumstances if the person happens to be rational. I once knew a straight libertarian who was pro-gay marriage, before libertarianism was hijacked by social conservatives. His rational was, doesn't affect me (i.e. Doesn't affect my marriage), so why should I deny them the same?
On the flip side of that, my American grandmother would occasionally talk about gay people to us when we were kids. No judgment on it, just to let us know they existed. In the past decade, she was vocal about her support for same sex marriage. Turns out her godson/nephew is gay, and well, another nephew was gay, and there was some question about one of my uncles.
She was an observant Catholic, too.
