The abandoned subdivision that partly inspired the Lively Acres story has a few interesting features.
These first three pictures were taken last winter1. Most of these are going to be blurry because I do not have steady hands at all. And my balance has been extra shit since the car accident. Sorry. The title is kind of a warning.

My grandma was an amature photographer. And this picture reminds me of her photos.
Anyway, there you go. Shitty pictures of the SubDivision That Time Forgot. I'll explore it some more another day.
Some other things I've seen involve random piles of mattresses, paint graffiti on the pavement, and a pile of old Christmas trees.
I am very tempted to set up a psuedo Satanic ritual in one of the cul-de-sacs and see what happens when the neighborhood kids find it, but one of the Uber-Christian mothers would probably burn the whole area down trying to drive out the devil.
1 By 'winter' I mean 'Georgia's extended Fall that substitutes for the real thing'.
Very cool!
Oooooh I love this kind of thing! There's one of these in the West Hills, but it's about 70 years old now. The Leif Erickson subdivision. There are even still foundations where they were going to build houses, but apparently there were too many mudslides and they had to abandon it, so now that's where Old Weird Ben cultivates his army of stray cats.
That reminds me of a castle they started building around here.

They never finished it and it is now for sale for 1 euro, provided you sign a contract that you will finish it within the rules of the municipality.
Link? I kinda want a castle...
A castle would be cool but do municipal standards allow for a moat?
Wow... too bad the cost to finish it would be so steep, that would be cool.

Yes.
Sadly, there are function requirements. Basically, anything that realisticly could make it make money is not allowed.

Yep, crazy expensive. Also, the concrete was exposed to the elements for so long a lot of it would need to be repaired.

Okay, CPD? This is really creepy, but...I think I know that place. I've been to an abandoned subdivision in Georgia, with those exact street lamps, and trails.

Everyone in this area has a story about how they dodged the cops by hiding in the woods/abandoned house/sewer/field of corn. Apparently cops are easily confused by non-urban landscapes.
Went again yesterday, for a little bit. Didn't stay long because my fucked up leg fucked up.
Shots are different sizes because I was screwing around with the camera settings for shits and giggles.

It smelled really strongly of animal in parts of the division. Like, so strongly I could smell it (by which I mean taste it, since I lack a sense of smell). Either a deer peed on me when I wasn't looking or elephants and horses have turned invisible to follow people around. It was a very strong scent/taste of more than one critter but I only saw a handful of tracks. Might have been a poacher's set-up. Oops.

Not sure. Just never had a really strong sense of smell. It seems to have faded even more over the years.

Er. I think I tried zinc once for something else but it triggered migraines. Same thing happened when I tried iron suplements for anemia.
ETA: When I get nose bleeds or a head cold, it all runs down the back of my throat. Got a door-edge smashed into the center of my face, but I don't think it affected my sense of smell at all.
Zinc deficiency can cause anosmia, and your description of how it "slowly went away" sounds typical.
Interesting. Maybe I'll try it again and see what happens.

Good luck! I think it usually takes a couple of weeks.
If supplements don't work for you try to find a list of high-Zinc foods.
Having a weak/weird sense of smell is also correlated with depression.

Neither. I was out there with my ex (a crazy ex who did porn shoots for a living; thank god that's all over with), and we were looking for places to take photographs, including empty houses. I don't remember the town. The area was about an hour north of Atlanta or more. But it seems awfully familiar, which is creepy.

Righteous.
Also may want to avoid nasal sprays that contain zinc. I don't even know why those are allowed. I know that sounds contrary to what I just said about zinc supplementation, but nasal sprays containing zinc can cause you to lose your sense of smell.

Well, I'm an hour-ish north-ish of Atlanta-ish so you were probably in this area. But this part of Georgia is all the same so I dunno.

My grandma and mom and her sisters are or were messed up in the head with depression type stuff so that wouldn't surprise me too greatly, if it were some sort of genetic thing.
Went out for a walk. Got a few pictures. Got a lot of sun. Got wet shoes. I think I ate a spider. Will post pictures once I hydrate.

I forgot to put the picture size back to super big. :P So I guess I'll just have to go back and do it again but get bigger pictures.
Wanted to see them so I tried fixing it.
That is the craziest damn place!

None o'your image tags are working, they are all html instead of BBcode.
Yeah, I know, I copy/pasted them from somewhere else and forgot to formate the code before I hit post. Fixed it now. :)

Well that works, too. They're on the new page and everything. Thanks and sorry. :lulz:

It's nuts. And I'll hear other people sometimes, on 4wheelers or something, but I never see anyone else.
Found somewhere normal to walk. A big park over in the farmland / McMansion area of town.

Found random dig-up spots all over the place this time.

Don't know what kind of bean that is but it's choking the shit out of all the other plant-life in that area. Pretty flowers.

Better shot of the cut-up hillside. Ignore the dumped rubble.

The creek comes right up beside the subdivision in this one spot. You can hear the water there like you're standing in it. This was as close as I could get, though, with my fucked up leg. This time.

Prettier. Prettier flowers. With mildly antiseptic leaves. Just smush, spit, and slap on a scrape. Used these all the time as a kid. Goldenrod is the shiz. It's also an anti-inflammatory and makes a good mouthwash.

This picture entertained me. All the trees and weeds reaching for the sun. The light pole and its buddy trying to blend in.
I took over a hundred pictures but a lot of them are more of the same, perspective angles and shit like that. Stuff that interests me but probably not any of you.
I will probably end up posting them anyway.
Lovely!
I've seen the creepy dug-out things before, but I can't remember what they are except something to do with runoff. Checking soil drainage maybe?

Yeah. Just checking water levels and probably getting soil samples to check for pollutants and minerals and shit. I think it has been re-surveyed since all the lots sold in the subdivision I live in. They're probably going to start building this one up soon, if the guy who bought ours buys this one, too.
Got a prize out of a claw-machine at the Wal-Mart, a few weeks ago. Cost me fifty-cents. Wore it the whole way through the store and out and then back in to return the cart. :P One gentleman stopped me and congratulated me on my excellence. He was envious and had tried for years to grow what I had done seemingly effortlessly. I told him most solemnly that he just had to try hard and be patient and he too could experience my glory.
BEHOLD!
I think it sets off my sunburn and mermaid hair rather well. :)
Glorious!
Thank you, thank you very much.
Part of the set for the next SpongeBob movie that was taking up my beach! :argh!:

Photobucket is being an asshole.
I'm glad I got pictures of the abandoned subdivision when I did because it's no longer abandoned and everything has been razed. Some day when it isn't heaving buckets and/or I own more than one pair of shoes, I'll go take after shots and put them with the before shots for comparison.
But since it is raining and I wasn't going that far back before my shift starts, I just took a few pictures, of the area behind the pool house. I was trying to catch a decent shot of the fog rising up from the valley but the temperature shifted too quick and the fog went poof between me using the bathroom and going out the front door again. Oh well.
Love the colors in this shot.

The rain gave everything brighter color and softer edges. I like that.
Lovely!
Thanks. :)
I love the third picture!
It gave me a second of easy breathing joy.
I'm stealing it.

Okie-dokie. I'd appreciate it if you didn't try to sell it or anything, though. :P That would be ridiculous.
