Title: Good News, Chic-fil-a, you're not the only gay-bashing food brand out there.

Welcome your new neighbor to Boycottsville, Barilla. Say hello, Barilla.

http://tv.msnbc.com/2013/09/26/pasta-barilla-boycotted-after-ceos-homphobic-remarks/

QuoteGay rights groups are boycotting Pasta Barilla after the company's CEO, Guido Barilla, said Wednesday on an Italian radio show, "I would never do an advert with a homosexual family." Barilla went on to say that his company's gay customers could go elsewhere if they didn't like his stance.

But wait! There's more!

Quote"I apologize if my words generated misunderstandings or arguments, or if they offended the sensibilities of some people," he said. The statement also said Barilla was trying to explain the company's view that "the woman plays a central role in the family."

The pasta boss made the anti-LGBT comments while he was answering a question about the stereotypical image of women in Italian advertisements. Barilla said that the company's advertisements featured "the concept of the sacred family."

"Ours is a classic family where the woman plays a fundamental role," Barilla said.

:lulz: I am suitably entertained.

The conclusion that I came to on this is that since I have one child who is sexually ambiguous and another who is too young to know whether she is possibly gay, and since I could, at any time, have guests for dinner who might be gay, whether that fact is known to me or not, I had better be on the safe side and purchase another brand, because I wouldn't want to go against the CEO's own wishes by having gays or potential gays or schrodinger's gays accidentally eat Barilla pasta.

Not that I've been in the habit of buying Barilla since I consider pasta products to be largely the same so why not go for store brand, but on the off chance that pasta from Barilla happens to be cheaper than Stop and Shop brand due to sale, I will still buy Stop and Shop brand.

This is all sorts of wut.

Presumably Barilla is ok with lesbian coupled families since there are two women there to play a central role.

Honestly, I'm more offended as a feminist than a bisexual.

I think that is your best option, honestly. We should start a meme. Every time a homosexual eats Barilla pasta, the CEO ugly cries for ten minutes. Every time another customer boycotts Barilla for their CEO's idiot stance, the CEO loses a million dollars. :P Something along those lines.

"We're okay with gay male couples, but there's no women there to make our pasta tastier, even though that should really be on us as the purveyors. Men, let alone gay men, don't know how to cook our pasta properly. It takes a specific throw it in boiling water process to fully bring out the proper flavor and texture. Even though cooking without a grille is a venerable and manly art in our culture. You need to have a vagina there to make it work right."

Remember: he didn't mean to offend you, it's just that your family's wrong.

Have to add this to the list. Swore off GP a while ago for other reasons.

Man, if I tried to cook with my vagina . . . I don't even want to think about it. I'm already not allowed in the kitchen without adult supervision.

You know, when stereotyping gay men, "unable to appreciate good food" and "no cooking skill" are not what immediately spring to mind...

Ted Allen should write a scathing reply to the CEO's 'stance'. It would be highly entertaining.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/10/02/hobby-lobby-jewish-boycott-steve-green_n_4032295.html

QuoteThe Hobby Lobby Hanukkah controversy began when Berwitz learned that on a recent shopping trip his wife's friends could not find anything related to Hanukkah at their local Hobby Lobby store in Marlboro, N.J., though it was stocked with Christmas items.

According to Berwitz, one of the women asked about bar mitzvah cards, and a Hobby Lobby salesperson replied: "We don't cater to you people."

That story prompted Berwitz, who own a market research company and writes the "Hopelessly Partisan" blog, to call the Marlboro store and ask why it seemed to be ignoring Hanukkah, the eight-day Jewish festival of lights, which begins on Nov. 27 this year. He wrote that he received the following response:

"Because Mr. Green is the owner of the company, he's a Christian, and those are his values."

Berwitz told Religion News Service that he then called Hobby Lobby's corporate headquarters in Oklahoma City, and the company confirmed that it does not stock items for Hanukkah, and did not give a reason. When he asked whether the company carries Passover merchandise, he was again told no.

"As someone with a great many Christian friends and acquaintances," Berwitz wrote, "I can honestly say that I don't know even one who would see the intentional exclusion of Jews as having anything to do with their religious beliefs."

Rabbi Donald A. Weber of Marlboro's Temple Rodeph Torah says Hobby Lobby has the right not to stock Hanukkah items, and everybody else has the right not to shop there. His advice for people looking to buy Hanukkah goods: Start with the congregation's sisterhood group, which sells Judaica.
