Have you ever tried talking to someone on the opposite side of the political spectrum? Sweet merciful fuck those people are stupid. It's impossible to communicate with them and what they forget when they try to score points against US it that it was THEM who were responsible for all of the issues they're bringing up. I can lay out for these fuckers exactly how I've taken their position into consideration in forming mine so as to be fair about the whole thing and these silly pricks just ignore all of that and blurt out their one-sided arguments without regard for whether I've already successfully countered their points.
They're all totally drinking the kool-aid. It's unreasonable to expect me to maintain a polite approach in dealing with these shitnecks day in and day out. They're totally unwilling to compromise, so yeah, I'm a bit past being respectful of their stupid fucking arguments.
I'M NOT LISTENING TO THEM ANYMORE BECAUSE THEY REFUSE TO HAVE CONVERSATIONS.
They're liars and they're to blame for all of our woes. Fuck those people.
The Jews.......are coming....

You shouldn't have an opposite side of the political spectrum, because this implies that the spectrum has two sides.
Us <-------> Politics
Politics, to a person properly infested with Holy™ exists only to be played with, lit on fire, and/or pushed down the stairs in its wheelchair. It is a handle by which you can grab onto people and make them do the monkey dance for your amusement.
I know what you were getting at, that Those People are the Other, and one side is equally guilty as the other...But I refute that there are two sides, unless by that you mean two sides of a coin.
But us? We are the coin that lands on its edge, spins, and stays on its edge, no matter how hard they thump the table. There is no victory save lulz, and that lulz is best effected when you've grabbed their handle, and they find out you don't have one to grab.
:potd:
I have a friend who's from Ireland. Very conservative, fairly racist, and aside from that, he's an absolute riot to hang out with. I really do appreciate being able to hear a human being explain, in person, why he hates obamacare, socialism, etc.
It's refreshing because my perception of his political positions were influenced by left wing people like Jon Stewart blasting conservative positions. And sometimes his reasoning or the forces informing his decisions are totally not what I expected. I don't find those points any more agreeable, but it's nice to be able to interface with that kind of Other directly, rather than just hearing sound bytes and rhetoric.
I had a little victory yesterday - he was talking about how he's actually glad people like Aaron Shwartz got the book thrown at him. He's glad the NSA has PRISM. Because he doesn't have anything to hide, so why should he be afraid of it? It's keeping all of us safe! Listen, this is a new age, you need new tools or the bad guys will always be a step ahead.
A few conversation beats later, he was talking about how courts are corrupt, the judicial system is untrustworthy, lawyers will say anything to put a guy in jail, it doesn't matter what the truth is.
And I asked him, "How do you reconcile that with 'nothing to hide, nothing to fear'?"
He sat there in silence for a full two minutes
and then changed the topic :lulz:

Then the angel of apathy/AM radio came along and he simply erased the incident.

Very this! I can reduce any viable target to a twitching, frothing shambles of a human being, inside of five minutes, by either agreeing or disagreeing with them. Bonus points for making them completely U-turn on their original stance, just to argue with me.

Last night, on FB:
Teabagger: The government shutdown rules. The government is evil.
Me: I agree wholeheartedly. After all, the government is The People, and The People are a bunch of immoral shitnecks that deserve whatever they get. The People also comprise the nation. Ergo, America is evil.
Teabagger: No, the government is full of socialists and fascists.
Me: Who put them there?
Teabagger: Liberals wanting their cheese.
Me: And they are American citizens, yes?
Teabagger: But not real Americans.
Me: Were they born here?
Teabagger: Look, not all Americans are socialist scum.
Me: You get judged by the company you keep. Again, America is inherently evil.
Teabagger hits ignore button.
