Villager and I got invited to a wedding at the end of July in Chicago. We're probably going to go on a Thursday and come back on that Sunday (the wedding is on a Saturday). So, that gives us the Friday to look around Chicago. Any of you spags know some weird/cool shit to look at, great places to eat, what kind of local beer to try?
Museum of Science and Industry.
Nothing else need be suggested as you will spend ALL of your free time marveling at that most glorious of places.
Oooh. U-Boat.
I am envious of their MOSI :(
Russian Tea Time, get a "Flight of Vodka" HIGHLY recommended.

I'll echo ech too. The Museum of Science and Industry is pretty great. Also the Field Museum is wonderful. The difference is are you in the mood for interactivity or old and ancient things.

That looks quite good. I didn't know there was a ritual to it, though I suppose every culture has theirs. I haven't had much Russian food either. Last time I had it, I was still living in Brookline (has a lot of Russians).
If you like the blues, go check out B.L.U.E.S. at 2519 North Halstead. I doubt you will regret it.
And if you like eating, I would check out the Chicago Chophouse... I don't recall the address offhand, but it should be in the phone book or something. I tmade me say "ooh la la" more than once.

Chophouse looks amazing but it seems to be a bit pricey. I might be able to. I should probably estimate how much I'm likely to bring with me.
I do like the blues.

Yeah, it is a little pricey... I wasn't sure how much you had to play with. My priorities are generally food... and then music. But, if I can get
both together: bully.

Food's a flexible priority. I'm not sure how much I'll have to play with either. Airfare, hotel and gift for the couple are a given. However, so is school and books (I'll be paying out of pocket for summer classes and partially out of pocket for fall semester). It would be nice, however, to take Villager some place higher end.
You might like Gino's I think. It's some of the best Chicago style pizza ever made. I specifically recommend the original location on Lincoln Ave. It's all tagged up with little notes and drawings on every surface that the customers have been encouraged to leave for decades. It's awesome!
Isn't "best Chicago-style pizza" sort of like "skinniest kid at fat camp"?

My favorite place in Chicago is Lou Malnati's Pizzaria. There are a bunch of locations, I prefer the full restaurant and bar locations.

We went to Uno Pizzeria. It was really fucking good.

:) Yeah kind of. It can definitely get you into fat camp with a quickness! The best pizza I ever 'et comes from a small place called Ferraro's in Racine. There is no substitute for the water there when it comes to pizza crust I'm told.
Chicago style. Thats a bit of an inside joke with us at the grooms expense. When he was living here he would try and wow us with his chicago style food and insist it was better.

Ah! Yeah. Hotdogs with mustard and peppers but no ketchup and pizza upside down except the crust. Doesn't really sound as good as "Chicago-style". Now that I think of it "Chicago-style" politics and crime are all effin backward too. Crime is supposed to be done on the quiet and politics is at least expected to kinda pretend to not be screwing you. Hm.

He also used to grill meat in homemade aluminum foil trays.
He made his own aluminum!?

It's my preferred way of eating them.
Given the disgusting pink sludge that 99% of all hotdogs are made of, it doesn't really matter what you put on it, so long as it disguises the flavour.
Definitely go to the Weiner's Circle where they insult you and you love it.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33zPlnhymCU

That's American freedom you're thinking about. English freedom tastes like fish and chips. Cain's also got the option of Aussie freedom which tastes like whatever Aussies are supposed to eat during their cricket matches.
What do Aussies eat? Barbecued crocodiles and such?
What does Irish freedom taste like?

Chicago's local beer is "Miller High Life". Kill yourself now, save the effort.
Things to do:
Museum of Science and Industry.
The Field Museum. (mummys, dinosaurs, and shit)
The Aquarium.
Please note that you could spend a month at either museum and not see half of either one.

I also found out from talking to Kai a while back that they have 4.1 million pinned insects in a non-public collection. (http://fieldmuseum.org/explore/department/zoology/insects/collections) also 8.3 million specimens or lots in alcohol or on microscope slides.

Yeah, but I'm sure they'd let you in if you legitimately wanted to examine any...I know that's probably not in your agenda...but I still thought it was a pretty cool fact.

I'd be interested in taking a look at it but it might bore Villager. I dunno, I could ask her.
