Okay, so I've been kinda "yadda yadda...VR... meh" about this whole thing. More exited about shit like augmented reality glasses so I've missed out on a lot of the story so far but he murmuring in games related channels is getting hard to ignore. What I didn't realise was that Carmack is involved and, what's more, Carmack is excited about it. History has proven, several times over, that if Carmack is excited about something, more often than not, it turns out to be pretty rad. Here's an interview from october last year. I'm suddenly getting a warm feeling in the sub-cockle region about VR that I haven't since I started imagining it back in the 80's  :fap:
Carmack recently quite id Software to do his own thing. Occulus Rift is definitely part of that.

All I know is that that guy has been directly responsible for giving me years of videogaming fun. He turns anything he touches to awesome

I'm just waiting for my moddable AR glasses so I can see the world as William Gibson intended: In neon magenta wire frame.
There's probably a google glass app for that in the works.

Google glass isn't even doing AR going by the screen/view coverage. It's a crappy little window in the corner of your view. Meta looks much better but they're only slightly more portable than Oculus, given that they're thethered to wifi and short on battery life. There's still a ways to go...
Heard a report on it from SxSW today. The HBO experience. Reporter was demoing it going up the basket lift from Game of Thrones. The astonished ball-tripping sounded pretty legit.
Saw some reports of that as well (they used tricks like compressed air blasts when you "exited" the elevator on the top of the wall to sell the experience. Neat stuff. I wonder if a video of the render they used will surface.
Woohoo! The warmongers are onboard. That usually means development is about to step up several gears

How wonderful. Now, we realize we should have been paying more attention to those who had been deemed mentally incapacitated because of their neurological instabilities. ((only half sarcastic))
"Crescent Bay" at CES (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-IdUI0qs7w) It's beginning to look like, if Oculus have their way, CV1 will never be finished. Just fucking release it already! :argh!:
