When are people just going to accept that rich people are ALWAYS the real victim?

QuoteA Superior Court judge who sentenced a wealthy du Pont heir to probation for raping his 3-year-old daughter noted in her order that he "will not fare well" in prison and needed treatment instead of time behind bars, court records show.
Judge Jan Jurden's sentencing order for Robert H. Richards IV suggested that she considered unique circumstances when deciding his punishment for fourth-degree rape. Her observation that prison life would adversely affect Richards was a rare and puzzling rationale, several criminal justice authorities in Delaware said. Some also said her view that treatment was a better idea than prison is a justification typically used when sentencing drug addicts, not child rapists.
Yes. "Unique circumstances (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DuPont)."

What.
The.
FUCK.
This is nothing new. It's the American Way™. One set of laws; for the poor.
Posting to see this thread when the inevitable Belgian or Amsterdam connection appears.
I also checked, and class four rape in Delaware is classed as a Class C Felony.
But according to CriminalDefenseLawyer.com, child rape is normally considered a class B felony, punishable by 25 years in prison. However, as a Class C Felony, the upper limit is 15 years.
Not that it seems to matter, since the Judge is just apparently making things up as the DuPont family see to their retirement fund they go along, but the charge does seem like it should be more severe even before taking into account the ridiculous punishment served out by the court.
"plea bargain" ?
Yeah, you're right:
QuoteBut in June 2008, just days before a scheduled trial, prosecutor Renee Hrivnak offered Richards a plea to a single count of fourth-degree rape, which carries no mandatory time, and he accepted, admitting in court that he abused his child.
"It was more than reasonable, an enlightened plea offer," Richards attorney Eugene J. Maurer Jr. said.
Well, I'm glad we've discovered the carceral state system is an inherently unfair and violent world just in time to save Mr DuPont from its pernicious clutches.

He had a rough childhood. :(
I know, right?
QuoteRichards, who is unemployed and supported by a trust fund, owns a 5,800-square-foot mansion in Greenville he bought for $1.8 million in 2005. He also lists a home in the exclusive North Shores neighborhood near Rehoboth Beach, according to the state's sex abuse registry. His great-grandfather is du Pont family patriarch Irenee du Pont, and his father is Robert H. Richards III, a retired partner in the Richards Layton & Finger law firm.
I'm glad the judge took this tragic upbringing into account.

If I was only left a couple million in a trust fund, my childhood would have been rough too.
Wealthy parents are known for being cold and distant.
Ask Batman.
So this guy's a descendant of the family who were major funders of Aslinger and Hearst's original war on marijuana?

Dear god, imagine that being your first memory
prediction time.
There will be widespread facebook and twitter rage about this which will lead to quite a few accused child molesters without family fortune to save them seeing stiffer sentences and less chance of avoiding conviction. Meanwhile Mr Richards will slowly fade from everyone's minds and will make sure to be more careful about covering his tracks next time around.
Yes, although I think mistaking the causality for causation between the inevitable social media storm and the following convictions gives those sites far too much credit in regards to influence over the judicial system.
As an aside, there seems to be a disturbing number of sex crimes committed by the incredibly affluent. I'm wondering just how statistically significantly different that number is. Complaining about the 1% because of inequality is one thing, but this level of paid-for justice is just unbelievably sickening. More attention to the times people have bought their way out of court is surely a good thing.

Random find from today (source not vetted):
http://directorblue.blogspot.com/2014/03/lawsuit-bill-clinton-made-multiple.html
The Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2584309/Bill-Clinton-identified-lawsuit-against-former-friend-pedophile-Jeffrey-Epstein-regular-orgies-Caribbean-compound-former-president-visited-multiple-times.html) has reported much the same (almost verbatim, in fact).
Going to a relatively more reputable source, the Enquirer's quotes of the court transcripts show that there is no direct mention of Clinton taking part in anything on the island in question:
QuoteThe documents do not accuse Clinton of taking part, but flight logs filed with the court show that he traveled on Epstein's plane several times between 2002 and 2005, according to the ENQUIRER. Epstein's personal directory also allegedly shows email addresses for Clinton and 21 phone numbers for him. The phone transcript also reportedly included references to "favors" Clinton owed Epstein.
Epstein himself is a much better example. And guess who else Epstein is friends with? Only Prince Andrew (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2584882/Clinton-links-Andrews-billionaire-pervert-friend-Flight-logs-former-President-flew-ten-times-private-jet-visited-Caribbean-island.html). The same Prince Andrew who is on very friendly terms with the Kazakh oligarchy (http://www.rferl.org/content/prince-harry-kazakhstan/25312225.html), who bought one of the Prince's houses, well above the market asking price, with laundered cash.
And guess who else was involved with that deal? Only the Boston Bomber's Uncle Ruslan (http://www.madcowprod.com/2013/04/22/was-boston-bombers-uncle-ruslan-with-the-cia/). Funny old world, hey?
Oooh, nice links there.
