I love movies. One of my favorite kinds of movies are those hidden gems that nobody seems to know about.
So I shall begin...
Streets of Fire
Full Movie Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-mKJdrFE3U)
Francesco Dellamorte (Rupert Everett) is a cemetery caretaker in a small Italian town. Occasionally, however, the dead (called Returners) come back seven days after they're buried and the only way to send them back is via a headshot.
Things tend to take a turn when "She" comes along and Dellamorte becomes entangled in Love, Death and Existential Angst. This is just the beginning as the movie gets increasingly more and more fucked up.
Back before this movie was available on youtube or even DVD for that matter, I hunted through the internet and found a VHS of this movie. It was a happy day when it arrived.
Cast a Deadly Spell

I love this movie. And I forgot all about it until today. In the pic above you can see the USA today's review, "Imagine Who Framed Roger Rabbit? with witches and zombies instead of toons." That's pretty damn accurate. Harry Philip Lovecraft (Fred Ward) is a detective in a world where basically everyone uses magic. It includes many references to H.P. Lovecraft. It's very tongue-in-cheek. It's very much Elmore Leonard meets HP Lovecraft with a side dish of goof.
Fuck yes. I love both of those, Bu☆ns.
Streets of Fire also looks cool as hell.
Time Bandits belongs on here. Probably Better Off Dead, & The Last Starfighter, both of which inspired me to get into animation & computer 3d animation.
Liquid Sky.
I'm not sure I can explain this movie.

Oh definitely Time Bandits and The Last Starfighter. Now I've seen Better Off Dead on the shelves but never actually watched it...i'll be adding that to my queue.

The Apple.
What if someone tried to film an homage to "Paradise Lost" in the 70s, but was too messed up on mushrooms and peyote to achieve anything resembling coherence.
Lesson Faust
Sample Here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpzwTK5mVtE)
Jan Svankmajer's interpretation of the classic story of a man selling his soul to the devil. It's
very good and combines puppetry with stop motion animation in a very VERY artistic manner. Check out the sample (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BpzwTK5mVtE) to just get a very small hint of it's insanity. Also Brotep recommended it to me a couple years ago and it's due for a re-watch.
I couldn't find it online but if anyone is interested send me a PM and I'll dropbox it or put it on my ftp server or something.

Quote from: WikipediaThe Apple (a.k.a. Star Rock) is a 1979 musical science fiction film starring Catherine Mary Stewart and directed by Menahem Golan. It is a discoesque rock opera-styled feature, set in a futuristic 1994, dealing with themes of conformity versus rebellion and infused with Biblical allegories (namely the tale of Adam and Eve).
:lulz: okay now that just ridiculous.
Death to Smoochy is one of my favorite dark comedies despite its abysmal reputation. Every actor in it is enjoying that hell out of their roles

Seconded.
Where's Hoopla when we need him? Wasn't he doing video movie reviews for these kinda films?

Yes, and they're awesome.
If we're talking dark comedies that went right over everyone's heads, Shakes the Clown is right up there.

lol yes! I just happen to be on a dark comedy kick lately...but I'm certainly not limited to that.
Ok, in the "actually a good film" category, I'd suggest Being There. Peter Sellers plays a gardner who knows nothing about the outside world, to the point of near-catatonia, and gets sucked into the American political system, where he excels.

Heh, most of the movies I reviewed were pretty terrible, though I more often than not tended to like them personally. But, that's not to say I would necessarily recommend them to anyone.
For an underrated movie I'd actually recommend (other than Shakes the Clown, which I also stand behind) I would choose 3 Women by Robert Altman. It might be a little slow for some people, but it's a strange and beautiful film which not a lot of people have seen, sadly.

Troll 2.
:lulz: My friends and I used to have Troll 2 parties and get drunk and other things and watch that gawdawfullyawesome movie
Mutant Girls Squad. It is the stuff Bad Movie Nights are MADE of. Do what I did: get some reasonable whisky, add a pizza or two, a handful of friends, a netflix account and SERVE.

Because there's so much wrong with this terrible heap of shit it actually starts to become decent. Seriously. At some point your mind breaks and the headbands with "ninja" on seem to make some kind of horrible sense.

Quite good, though not as good as Flash Gordon.
The wife contends that Flash Gordon is the greatest movie ever made.
I still love her.

Apparently, all of "To Cast a Deadly Spell" is up on youtube (I'd look for a cleaner source, but it's cool it's out there).
I don't know if it was underrated at the time, but nobody knows it now - it's old. Tod Browning's The Unknown - you can watch it here, but use the mute button - somebody scored it and did a shit job. You won't miss any dialogue, it's a silent. It's also weird as fuck. :D http://vimeo.com/38196403

cabin boy (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109361/)
Two movies off the top of my head:
Ink (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1071804) This one is actually really good, or at least I thought so.
And a less serious one:
Rubber (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1612774) This one is awesomely awesome.
