Title: Okay, show of hands....
Post by: Chelagoras The Boulder on September 19, 2015, 12:18:59 AM
Who else here is a weeb, and what series are you watching?

right now i'm watching:

Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma: IronChef+ DBZ+ TITS

My Love Story: A shaved gorilla posing as a japanese high school student starts an adorable relationship with a high school girl who seems to not have bones sometimes

Princess Tutu: Cardcaptor Sakura has to save a Tuxedo Mask's heart; collecting it piece by piece using the power of ballet.

I've heard good things about Food Wars.

I recently watched Yona of the Dawn again - a deposed princess goes around with her mortally wounded bodyguard to find four mutants who are magically compelled to love her to take back her throne, theoretically?  It didn't get a second season so far, so who the fuck knows.

Finish the tatami galaxy
Rewatching welcome to the nhk
Casual flicking through space dandy
And sometimes watching plastic memories.

I don't know what a weeb is.
weebo

someone who really likes anime.
sentence: "ANIMIE IS MY FUCKING LIFE, WEEBO PRIDE"

Used in this context as ironically to show we like anime, but aren't autistic about it.

I was always more under the impression "weebo" (WEE'ah'boo) was a derogatory term indicating someone who dedicates enormous amounts of time watching anime, bases their lifestyles upon what Japanese culture they know (learned from the anime they watched), flaunts their knowledge of the Japanese language (also learned from anime), and act like characters from their favorite anime.  Weebos are fucking obnoxious, and when I finally learned the word for them I was so glad that just watching anime wasn't enough.

Watching anime in Japanese IS a way to learn very rudimentary japanese, and even if I don't know enough to follow along with what they're saying I amuse myself in trying to piece together how their sentence structure is put together.

Edit: Shit, that might be otaku.  Weebo is them obsessed with Japan in every way.

Edit again:  I basically live at a nerd store, don't judge me for knowing these things!

I cannot say enough good things about food wars. Give it it as much shit as you like for the level of fanservice(Fun fact: the original artist used to do hentai and he is clearly trolling us with it) but you really do learn a bunch of cool things about food.

"Food Wars: blurring the line between food porn and regular porn!"

I know a Laotian Weeaboo.

I mean, I know it's technically not funnier than a white Weeaboo, but for some reason it is.

A weeb is basically a non-Japanese Japan culture (focused on anime and manga) otaku, with all the connotation that goes with otaku in Japan, ie usually used derisively from outside and occasionally used "ironically" from inside.

See also: animu, mango, weeb trash, and moon runes.

I don't think weeb is even used by anyone but fans to refer to themselves anymore.

But at least half of the fanservice is directed at women.

I highly recommend My Love Story and Food Wars

But we aren't watching anime that much anymore because Crunchyroll discontinued their smarttv app, so I ended up watching almost the entirety of the Macross franchise. I was watching gundams but got bored/found more important things to do with my time than spend every 25 minutes getting up to hit next.

Ah, see, I am familiar with the term but only know it in its derogatory context, as used by my 17-year-old daughter.

It's a full-blown case, too. As in she self-identifies as Japanese despite the fact that her family is from Laos.

I think she was actually born here, though.

She's actually one of the cooler people I met at my old job. She has an active fantasy life, but she's really friendly and easy to get along with.

I'd rate her social skills as above average.
