I know that many will call this useless work.

Eventually everyone gets older, and then you have to act your age, and not your shoe size.

[But] [n]ot by age but by capacity is wisdom acquired.  A witty saying proves nothing.  Wisdom is better than Wit.  A man with wisdom is better off than a stupid man with any amount of charms and superstition.  To the fool, he who speaks wisdom will sound foolish.  The fool doth think he is wise, but the wise man knows himself to be a fool.  Wise men learn more from fools than fools from the wise.  The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.  The plainest sign of wisdom is a continual cheerfulness: her state is like that of things in the regions above the moon, always clear and serene.  Wise anger is like fire from a flint: there is great ado to get it out; and when it does come, it is out again immediately.  Wise men hear and see as little children do.  Wisdom begins in wonder.

It's not completely useless work, but it's also not very useful work.

Write your own toilet paper, damn it!

Eric is the great and wise man who is here to show us all teh error of our ways. especially me, who he has ripped off directly apparently at times. look for it, it's the odd bits that might even make sense or soudn good, but surrounded by compelte bullshit that makes you think his parents should've sapnked him more as a child or something.

Horab.  I have never, ever, fucking ripped you off.  Get a life, man.  You are not this almight sage either, and I have no need to rip you off.  You need to understand that sometimes, the 'deep, insightful thoughts you have had on the nature of (reality/religion/politics/et cetera)' have already occured to others, and will occur to others in the future.

I'm not a Great and Wise person.  But I am a heck of alot happier than alot of you people seem to be, and I live a pretty good and responsible life.  Let me give you some more of my stuff that you can claim I 'ripped off from you.'  Anyone who does know who's work I'm actually paraphrasing here gets bonus points on the term paper.

*Cough*

I am Buddha.  You are Buddha.  The Green Grass is Buddha, and the Blue Sky.  The animals and the rocks and the trees are Buddha.  In hating others, you only hate yourself.  In harming others, you only harm yourself.  In loving others, you love yourself.  In helping others, in easing their suffering, you ease your own suffering.

*Cough*

Thats all real nice Eric, but you've yet to prove anything to us.  Those words sounded right when the Buddha said them, because the Buddha acted in accordance with his words.  You do not.  Your words are a front that you are presenting to us.  Who said we're not all quite happy?  I'm a rather happy hippy here, most of the time...no thats wrong.  I am a rather content hippy.  I've been settling with things around me.  "Doctines are for pointing to the mind, once one sees the mind what good are doctrines?" said someone wise at one time (I think it was some Taoist fellow, but don't quote me on that  :wink: ).  With you, child, they seem to be missing.

Personally, I think it's my failure to accurately convey the idea properly.  It's something I'm told occurs alot when trying to explain an epiphany in words.

Also, if you want someone else's opinion of my true nature, though this was many years ago, it's probably still accurate.  To Sum Me Up In Four Lines of Shakespeare:

ROMEO:  I dreamt a dream tonight.
MERCUTIO:  And so did I.
ROMEO:  And what was yours?
MERCUTIO:  That dreamers often lie.

Let's get it straight. The next part of your life on this board will resemble the following scene if you keep it up.

Quote
Act V.
Scene I. Mantua. A Street.

Next

Scene I. Mantua. A Street.

Enter Romeo.

Rom. If I may trust the flattering truth of sleep,
My dreams presage some joyful news at hand:
My bosom`s lord sits lightly in his throne;
And all this day an unaccustom`d spirit
Lifts me above the ground with cheerful thoughts.
I dreamt my lady came and found me dead;
Strange dream, that gives a dead man leave to think!
And breathed such life with kisses in my lips,
That I revived, and was an emperor.
Ah me! how sweet is love itself possess`d,
When but love`s shadows are so rich in joy!

Enter Balthasar, booted.

News from Verona! How now, Balthasar!
Dost thou not bring me letters from the friar?
How doth my lady? Is my father well?
How fares my Juliet? that I ask again,
For nothing can be ill if she be well.

Bal. Then she is well, and nothing can be ill.
Her body sleeps in Capel`s monument,
And her immortal part with angels lives.
I saw her laid low in her kindred`s vault,
And presently took post to tell it you.
O! pardon me for bringing these ill news,
Since you did leave it for my office, sir.

Rom. Is it e`en so? then I deny you, stars!
Thou know`st my lodging: get me ink and paper,
And hire post-horses; I will hence to-night.

Bal. I do beseech you, sir, have patience.
Your looks are pale and wild, and do import
Some misadventure.

Rom. Tush! thou art deceived;
Leave me, and do the thing I bid thee do.
Hast thou no letters to me from the friar?

Bal. No, my good lord.

Rom. No matter; get thee gone,
And hire those horses; I`ll be with thee straight,
[Exit Balthasar.
Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee to-night.
Let`s see for means: O mischief! thou art swift
To enter in the thoughts of desperate men.
I do remember an apothecary,
And hereabouts he dwells, which late I noted
In tatter`d weeds, with overwhelming brows,
Culling of simples; meagre were his looks,
Sharp misery had worn him to the bones:
And in his needy shop a tortoise hung,
An alligator stuff`d, and other skins
Of ill-shaped fishes; and about his shelves
A beggarly account of empty boxes,
Green earthen pots, bladders, and musty seeds,
Remnants of packthread, and old cakes of roses,
Were thinly scatter`d to make up a show,
Noting this penury, to myself I said
An if a man did need a poison now,
Whose sale is present death in Mantua,
Here lives a caitiff wretch would sell it him.
O! this same thought did but forerun my need,
And this same needy man must sell it me.
As I remember, this should be the house:
Being holiday, the beggar`s shop is shut,
What, ho! apothecary!

Enter Apothecary.

Ap. Who calls so loud!

Rom. Come hither, man. I see that thou art poor;
Hold, there is forty ducats; let me have
A dram of poison, such soon-speeding gear
As will disperse itself through all the veins
That the life-weary taker may fall dead,
And that the trunk may be discharged of breath,
As violently as hasty powder fired
Doth hurry from the fatal cannon`s womb.

Ap. Such mortal drugs I have; but Mantua`s law
Is death to any he that utters them.

Rom. Art thou so bare, and full of wretchedness,
And fear`st to die! famine is in thy cheeks,
Need and oppression starveth in thine eyes,
Contempt and beggary hang upon thy back;
The world is not thy friend nor the world`s law:
The world affords no law to make thee rich;
Then be not poor, but break it, and take this.

Ap. My poverty, but not my will, consents.

Rom. I pay thy poverty, and not thy will.

Ap. Put this in any liquid thing you will,
And drink it off; and, if you had the strength
Of twenty men, it would dispatch you straight.

Rom. There is thy gold, worse poison to men`s souls,
Doing more murders in this loathsome world
Than these poor compounds that thou may`st not sell;
I sell thee poison, thou hast sold me none.
Farewell; buy food, and get thyself in flesh.
Come, cordial and not poison, go with me
To Juliet`s grave, for there must I use thee.
[Exeunt.]
