Everyone's always Cthulhu this and Cthulhu that, but no one ever says anything about Nyarlathotep. Am I the only who who likes Nyarlathotep?
(not saying Cthulhu isn't cool or anything...)
Pssh. People get all hung up on Cthulhu, and forget the Miskatonic Razor.

i'm a big fan of the creeping chaos myself.
GMD uses Nyarlathotep in some of its practices!
Nyarlathotep > Cthulhu
for that matter, Azathoth > Cthulhu
and let's not forget, Shub Niggurath > Cthulhu

I agree. As cool as the other elder gods might be, they just aren't the Cthulu I've grown to know and love.
Gotta admit, though........I love him best of all when he's at horab's place instead of mine.
What about Yog Sothoth?
Or is he ignored because he's in the Illuminatus Trilogy?
Quote from: Christ RawWhat about Yog Sothoth?

probaly because he's the redheaded bastard child of the elder gods.
there was a wailing and a syphoning as the birthing pains of yog sothoth's illegitimate stepfather shrieked cyclopean rages from teh depths of time into th ematerial wakign world of men and sciences, from that hporrible abominable bosom came th ehideous thing, the offspring of the coupling of the colour out of space and He Who's Name Must Not Be Spoken, the black man, and the finitesimal angles which vexed my shattered mind in the early days of may. There was a faded shadow of what may have been but never was, and what was given to that shadow was the form of the Gate, who was also the Keeper of the Gate, an all in one and one in all being of limitless being and self from beyond the boundaries of space and time, who was also known under the name of rudy and amny other names, but especially rudy when trying out for the football team.
For me it's a tie between Yog-Sothoth and Nyatlathotep. But doesn't seem fair to compare Cthulhu to them, because he's not really a god is he?

Uh oh.

Please don't let Cthulu hear you say that. You have no idea what he's like when he throws a temper tantrum. All I can say is "Thank Eris it's horab's turn to have custody of him right now!"
The Scrid>All Elder Gods.
'Nuff said.
Oh... I thought this was a Cthulhu-bashing thread. Sorry!

The Scrid>Cuthulu, as well.
Better?
which one was the black goat god of one thousand young? shub-niggurath i think? that was the coolest mythos ever- can anyone suggest some non-lovecraft authors that do justice to the mythos? i think i've read MOST of the cthulhu mythos stuff by hpl, as well as a bunch of other lovecraft.
i don't think anyone does the mythos like lovecraft. but hten i really like his writing style. he's the only author whose works give me the heeby jeebies.
Have you tried Frank Belknap Long? Similar, and creepy.
Doesn't deal with the Mythos directly, he goes in a different direction, but there are similar themes.
I agree with horab here. I have read quite a lot of non-hpl "mythos" stuff but none of it seemed quite as genuine, with a few exceptions. I also agree with a lot of people who say hpl wasn't a great author, but he did have truly wonderful ideas. His stories, while not always very good in themselves, have sort of planted seeds in my mind that have grown into a great appreciation of the "mythos".
As the "mythos" is usually presented, it's a product of many more authors than hpl himself though... and many of the entities he himself used weren't entirely his own constructions. But I credit him with the basic look and feel of the mythos, as well as most of the main characters.
i would have to say, that Cthulhu holds a special place in my heart,
i just hope he doesn't wake up and eat it.
nyatlathotep is a good question though.

You're not Testing the Scrid, are you?
Apparently, it's got laser beam eyes...
adn you'd think hjaving pinpoint precision with 8 firearms simualtaneous regardless of factors like recoil or any of that other shit would be enough.
