Fear = adrenaline rush

Fear is the only emotion worth bothering with. All others are just plain fucking gay!

Timesavers involve working out what you're good at. I never mastered that one so I tend to just spend ages, finding out how much I suck at or hate different things. I have a good time with it tho so I never really looked for my own virtuoso.

(mostly out of fear of it not being there)

Andrew Newberg, MD, Associate Professor of Radiology, Psychiatry, and Religious Studies says, "Our finding of decreased activity in the frontal lobes during the practice of speaking in tongues is fascinating because these subjects truly believe that the spirit of [Gawd] is moving through them and controlling them to speak.  Our brain imaging research shows us that these subjects are not in control of the usual language centers during this activity, which is consistent with their description of a lack of intentional control while speaking in tongues."

By diminishing their rational capacity in a flurry of retardation, they get closer to  Gawd.

Case closed.

And thats the kind of research Im talking about.

Sounds a lot like mantra yoga. If you sell it as get closer to bloke with beard then that's what they'll buy.

Secret of how religion works

1) blow their minds empty then fill the space with gobshite.

2) Experience is so profound that they will never stop dribbling about it.

3) Send them out to dribble at people who might listen (carefully selected from a demographic profile or by spamming)

4) Count the cash

Nothing complicated. Spot of elementary school trance induction and you're good to go.

I'd love to see BIP turned into a religion - Separation of idiots from cash is highest form of alchemy. Of course you yanks don't get irony do ya?

People often have this weird fear of trying things because they think they'd be crap at them. Of course you'll be crap at it - you never tried it before. Most of the people who are good at it started out crap but persevered. The only way to get good is to practice. Usually takes ages to get really good at anything worthwhile. Get stuck in, be crap, we can all aplaud you as you get better.

If you stay the same or get worse - maybe it's not your bag - try being crap at something else for while and see if that works out better for you.

the only thing worse than producing no media is spending a shit load of time producing ineffective media that doesnt hit your intended target

Disagree - spending time producing complete crap is all part of the learning curve.

the options are to figure out how to produce good media that does hit its target

develop a technique that allows you to produce (and disseminate) mediocre-to-good media with no time commitment

change the 'no' for a 'less' and I'm on the same page as you there. Doing anything takes time. Inspiration v's perspiration formula.

How many here have actually tried to talk out the BIP with strangers IRL?

How many times has the reaction been, "uh huh, I get it," and hen they continue on their merry way as if nothing has changed, because they just don't think it applies to them?

Is there another way to explain it?

Or do we just throw up our hands, and then clock them from behind with a shovel?

I only discussed "BIP" IRL with people who would get it anyway but I have managed to get in the door with the odd person who brought bewilderment with the situation those kind of concepts were designed for.

Barstool doesn't apply to BIP - you can't just evangelise and hit them with it. They gotta be ready to understand it. You never seen the light switch on in at least one persons face when something you were telling them made the mark?

i respect what you do
you force people to scrutinize their own perspectives and make them question whether they are standing on firm ground or not

thats necessary

Is this, then, one of the ,Äúreally real,Äù reasons behind O:M?  To make people really understand these principles?  How can you make a person who,Äôs convinced that they think for themselves and believe that they understand the scarcity of their perceptions actually realize it?

There has to be a small number of 'marginals' who will 'get' some piece of writing and break a chain or two. There's no quickfire way to enlighten the majority. It's like the matrix - we're trying to give the next prisoner a hand out, or a rope or some other bullshit metaphor. I'd love to wake up tomorrow and the whole human race had read BIP and got it but I figure the best I can hope for is maybe someone did this month.

Quote from: LMNO on February 21, 2007, 05:45:44 PM

Then another thought struck me:  What if the BIP simply doesn,Äôt matter?  What if it,Äôs just another artificial construct that we thought up to try to make ourselves seem important and insightful?

Nothing fucking matters dude. Either you enjoy it or you don't. The thought of the look on that one guys face when he reads something I've written and get's the punchline is what keeps me going.

Fuck being important, insight is where it's at for me.
