But imagine if his intention wasn't just to scare the guy.

Hey, I've considered willy wonker to be a saint of discordia as well- I remember first reading the book when I was 8 (When it was called "Charlie and the chocolate factory" Which I personally feel makes more sense, but, whatever).

I've got on my guitar, "There's no knowing where they're going" as my motto for it.

Leaving that out was my biggest beef with the new one.  The bad music and the oompa loompas annoyed me too.

I read (or something) that Wilder added much of the poetic quotes impromptu during the filming(old version).  Which was cool.

We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams.
World-losers and world-forsakers,
Upon whom the pale moon gleams;
Yet we are the movers and shakers,
Of the world forever, it seems.

With wonderful deathless ditties
We build up the world's great cities,
And out of a fabulous story
We fashion an empire's glory:
One man with a dream, at pleasure,
Shall go forth and conquer a crown;
And three with a new song's measure
Can trample an empire down.

We, in the ages lying
In the buried past of the earth,
Built Nineveh with our sighing,
And Babel itself with our mirth;
And o'erthrew them with prophesying
To the old of the new world's worth;
For each age is a dream that is dying,
Or one that is coming to birth.

Reminded me of a documentary I watched on freespeechtv about how the constitution defines income tax as voluntary, and there is no law overriding it.  Not that the IRS wont come to your house and forget to bring the vaseline....but I think there was even a supreme court ruling on it....

And I posted a sincere and honest answer.

Wisdom is bullshit, another fake quality invented so people can pass off information in such a way that the integrity of the source and not the content, is what is questioned.

People can occasionally act in wise ways.  But there is no such thing as a wise person.  Stop using Platonism, it only leads you into linguistic traps and falsehoods.

Wouldn't someone who makes "acting in wise ways" a habit be more wise than one who does it rarely?

Just remembered a time I was working at a convenience store.  This cop came in and walked up to the counter with two cases of beer and stood in line.  He then looked at his shirt and said "oh shit I'm in uniform" and put the beer back.  He then asked me if we had banana rolling papers.  After saying no, he laughed and asked for a "bag...I mean pack" of cigarettes.  I was stoned off my ass at the time, mind you....

Off topic?  or wisdom in action?

Wisdom is knowing how to pretend to be TGRR's friend before you convince him that you'd be worthwhile visiting and waiting until he has his back turned before you stab him for being a cop. :mrgreen:

TGRR being a cop has given me more faith in our criminal justice system; also more fear of it...

Quote"Contrary to ancient lore and popular belief, the smoke that emerges from a water pipe contains numerous toxicants known to cause lung cancer, heart disease and other diseases."

Uhh, no shit.  What kind of morons had that in their popular belief.

Reminds me of when I see "Lead is known to the state of California to cause cancer."  What are the rest of us?  A bunch of morons?  I mean if an entire state knows something, then tells us, shouldn't we all know it?

But I guess we can't believe those damn liberals scientists in Cali.  They let sick people smoke pot for Christ's sake.

Also, why must we force them to tell us how much fat is in a bottle of water but not a bottle of beer?

As for the original post.  I think it makes very much sense.

I do see Silly's point that it is probably all BS, even the truth, but why keep throwing shit on top of the pile?  Even if at the bottom is just that single turd of meaningless truth.

Like LHX said, little Johnny wouldn't have snapped if the BS wouldv'e weighed a little less.  Or maybe Sally would snap instead.  Not being able to get her chocolate bar.

But if we had enough respect and understanding, Sally and Johnny should be able to share the damn chocolate bar anyway.

I used to know this woman who was raising a baby and to get the poor child to get under the covers and goto sleep she would scare him by telling him that the boogie-man was gonna get him.  She thought it was so cute when he huddled under the covers and clung to her side, and it actually worked at times.

I objected to this as cruel and wrong, but she didn't think so.  He would also wake up in the middle of the night screaming from nightmares.  Very often.

This reinforces the point I think.  More BS = more pain and suffering.
Less BS = greater understanding, respectfulness, honor, integrity, and so on.

Imagine if no Christian church anywhere held any part of the bible as literal.  But still maintained that it was the Word of God and that its morals should be read and understood.  Less arguing about creation and gay rights, more arguing about the disparity between the rich and the poor, etc.

we can't rely on Big Brother to come through with the goods, because there are strings attached to those goods that i, personally, would rather not be dangled from.

Who should we rely on?  The churches?  Philanthropists?  IMHO, the simple fact is that the small percentage of taxes that go to welfare and the like is better than nothing and certain policies could improve the situation.
