Apple Talk / The Tale of the Five Hundred Pinball Machines
September 17, 2010, 11:25:38 PM
The Dos Flamingos Road Trip begins tomorrow!

We're off to visit Reno (NV), Las Vegas (NV), Scottsdale (AZ), the Grand Canyon (AZ), Surprise (AZ), Los Angeles (CA), the 35th Annual Rocky Horror Convention in LA, the Winchester Mystery House (CA), San Francisco (CA), San Rafael (CA), Portland (OR),  Tacoma (WA), and back home to Seattle (WA).

Oh, yeah, the pinball spots we're visiting will be The Las Vegas Pinball Museum (155), Castles and Coasters in Scottsdale (30), Pins & Needles in LA (8), Family Amusement Corporation in LA (12), the Pacific Pinball Expo (250), Ground Kontrol in Portland (25), Slabtown in Portland (10), Dorky's in Tacoma (6), Hell's Kitchen in Tacoma (5), and probably say hello to the gang at Shorty's (17) before we get home. That should be enough pinball for a while. A week, tops.

Many crazy signs will be randomly posted! Minds will be blown! Lotsa scantily-clad young people! Lacquered frog bands! Weird towns named after amphibians! Stukas Over Disneyland! Okay, I can dream about that last one though...

We're also bringing a lot of homebrew with us. There will be lots of pictures of people playing pinball and enjoying our beer. And other goodies...

I suppose the fact that this road trip will be about 2500 miles is something...

Apple Talk / Re: Eris gets a Pinball Temple...

We had more than 100 people show up for our opening effort. We had 14 pinball tables and 2 pachinko games up and running, including a flipperless Bally table from 1936! Nothing but merry chaos and laughter and smiles. We stayed open an extra 90 minutes because every machine was being played at the original closing time. Kids were brought! It was FUCKING GLORIOUS!
I really love being a Discordian...

We don't have Attack From Mars, but here are nine locations on the West Coast that do:

Peleus: Hee hee hee, you're a funny guy...
There are a couple of old (as in OLD) bowling games we have our eyes on. We're trying to wheedle them away from their owners.

By day, I'm a financials programmer. But away from there... I set fire to trash cans outside Scientology places do an awful lot of networking with the pinball world. This Museum is the result of a group of friends who don't want to see pinball die out. Might be that it will, but who can say?

I've always said Eris spoke to me through the chaotic motions of pinball machines. That's where you learn that She can be a Most Royal Bitch at times.
So, in the last month we've gotten approval for and are moving pinball machines into a Pinball Museum in Seattle's International District. We open tomorrow, we'd just got approval two weeks before. Chaos never flowed so smoothly...
I promise there will be a Golden Apple somewhere in the place. Or we'll get 20 pinball machines and three pachinko games in there.
Wholly Chao! 'ERE WE GO, 'ERE WE GO, 'ERE WE GO...

Peleus: Would you honor us with your presence?

It's the base 10 representation of the Champernowe constant. It's a non-terminating, non-repeating number, so it's transcendant and therefore irrational.

Not too surprising. Look how long it took for the Avatards to form their own religion.
Religion sure makes people do some weird shit, eh? Even this one where you choose between necrophilia and bestiality.

July 4th marked our tenth anniversary. We went to a most excellent party out in South Seattle, didn't get past Round 1 of the Spank Your Tank competition :argh!:, hung out with a lot of good friends , drank and smoked way too much :horrormirth:, watched lots of stuff going FOOM :D, watched the debut performance of SkankBurgers :fap:, and then I got a pinball machine for an anniversary present :lulz:. It rained during the day but cleared up enough at night to do the fireworks.

My wife has a funny quote:
"Take any song you like and play it at 78 RPM. If it still sounds good, The Dickies probably played it."

Yeah, we thought that was ironically hilarious. Gonna be fun explaining that to the insurance company. Wonder if they had an "Act of God" clause?

Apple Talk / Re: Fremont Solstice Parade
June 21, 2010, 02:14:38 PM
Well, that was actually quite a bit of fun! Nude bicyclists and pirates and zombies, oh my!
Lots of smiles and laughs, lots of blown minds.

Our minds (as the pirates) were blown on two occasions during the parade by:
1) The girl who was on her cell phone during the whole blessing (which we made fun of though she was clueless about it),
2) The guy who provided his own pasta for the blessing. Which was cool!

After the parade I went and hid out at ADD Motorworks until it was time to hit the pinball party. That was a blast! We had brewed two beers for that party and all ten gallons had been drunk by about 10:30, along with quite a lot of other spirits and special brownies and...

Well, I think I can sum it all up thusly: "AAAAAIG ARRRIC GUBB IN FERLIN GOTT!" And you can quote me on that.

Apple Talk / Fremont Solstice Parade

Beatings and mutilations!
This Saturday is the annual Fremont Solstice Parade in Seattle. I will be in it again as a Pirate Priest hoistin' aloft His Noodliness The Flying Spaghetti Monster. I'd be much too scary as a nude bicyclist.

I like doing this because it provokes two very distinct reactions in the crowd:
1) Confusion - as in WTF is that? And why are people laughing and cheering and dancing around?
2) Joy/Laughter/Cheering - from the folks who are clued in. This further confuses the people in the first group, much to the further amusement of the guys in this group.
A couple of years ago the FSM stopped in front of a bunch of Greyfaces with their "Repent" and "You Are All Going To Hell" signs. The FSM appeared to read the signs and then prodded them with a noodly appendage. This increased the already high level of hilarity to the point where some people had tears running down their faces, they were laughing so hard. I live for that kind of stuff.

It'll be another wonderfully chaotic day. I'm not sure if it counts as a Day of Discord, though.

I'll be there! I'll be in the competition too!
Trifolds will be left lying around...
Come and see me there! The wife and I are fairly easy to spot...
I love that InterMittens ad! That should get its share of Belltown pole posts!
