Also, supposing I'm in the "inner circle", I still gotta be damn careful what I post because when I post dumb shit (really dumb shit) people will shit all over me! It's more like an "inner sphincter", in that regard.

Sorry, should've thought twice before using that. But is "oldfag" even a pejorative? I don't think it really applies any negative effects to the LGBT people, or anyone else for that matter. Not native speaker, though. (Instead, bisexual myself. I know, perhaps A. I'm just saying I'm bi just because I'm young and it's in these days etcetc or B. um, a bisexual people can still be homophobic, or . But yeah, using /b/ slang is probably still a crime vicious enough, so for that part yuor hating is entirely justified.)

Also, come on. I was not "ranting" about tyrannical oldspags. This doesn't bother me that much in the end.
Now that Dalekk started this thread, I just felt like putting my 1½ cents in - I pointed out how things seemed to me, not fiercely defending every idiot noob in this place ever or plotting a pinealist revolution or anything. I didn't suggest we should all eternally crap candy cotton unicorns and flowers and try not to hurt each other, and I'm not saying older users won't get shat on if they say something stupid. It's just that noobs very rarely get second chances after that single mistake, while older users are auto-forgiven (okay, there may still be some srs cockfighting between individuals, but at least the whole community won't stop listening to them and keep reminding everyone of the Stupid Shit Once Posted, lest someone be nice to them even if they're clearly Stupid, forever).

In general terms, often the person who speaks seems a lot more important than what is said. This shows in the amount of feedback and support the new users receive, which in turn discourages them from contributing more of their own stuff.

We aren't dogmatic, we just treat ideas like cockfights.  And we usually have the er, best cocks.

I'm not saying I'm not tired of the pinealist crap, for example, but I don't think that's such a huge problem in the end - people who go on about that stuff usually figure out this place isn't what they're looking for pretty soon anyway. But IMO the absurdly aggressive feedback even sensible, potentially awesome noobs so easily receive here might keep a lot of Great Things from happening, and prevent the community from evolving. Or at least slow down the process.

And don't expect that everyone else is making or should be making the same decision.

Okay, so this isn't really a religion as much as SRS SCIENCE, but it's called RETARDED DESIGN.

This is of course entirely plausible, and the proponents of Retarded Design fully believe the Universe and life is too complex to have developed without a creator. However, why should we automatically assume the Designer is intelligent, before we have carefully observed their work to draw our conclusions?

Ahem. On a more serious note: yeah, the text itself was pretty lame, just the same old thing about a dying planet and blah blah angst. But your sentences are mostly correct, and I don't think your writing is bad at all when you don't try too hard - it's always a lot easier to crack a witty joke in your native tongue, and humour is one of the hardest things to master in a language, so it will take some practice. I think it's a common reason for misunderstandings with new people here.

I'd say you just need to check your posts a few times and try to be clearer with what you're saying, until you're pretty sure others will get your point and know if you're joking. Keep writing and reading, just don't use too complicated structures, sarcasm or weird references until you get more of the nuances in the English language, as well as how things like idioms differ from the Finnish ones.
