Urgh, this is what I hate about PD.com, it is the only site in existence where a perfectly good spam thread can be misused for high quality discussions.  I hate you all.

I'm pretty sure I didn't contribute to this in any significant way (maybe it's one of those chaos theory, butterfly flaps its wings sort of connections) despite the message I got telling me that something I submitted was used.  I do have a tendency to forget most of the most profound, poetic, and/or funny things I say, so it is entirely possible.  That being said, I'm going to proceed to read ever word and take credit for the part I like most.

I believe maybe only "thought experiments" have gotten conducted in regards to the relativity of simultaneity.
Seems like it would be an easy experiment to carry out these days.  You could easily set up an "observer" (photoelectric censor) to be at stationary point that is equidistant between the instantaneous points at which the two "participants" (mirrors/sensors) would be when the light should reach them from a point stationary relative to the light source and two participants.  You could even have them moving in opposite directions at high speeds to increase the effect.

Very well done.  I was just re-thinking the seeming paradoxes of relativity earlier today and stumbled upon this thread.  Nice little synchronicity.  I know that there have been experiments that support relativity but was there one conducted similar to the one in your comic?  I would like to see a write up if anyone knows any good links/journals (I have access to journals online).

I just see no need to waste it on mystical pseudo-babble when I have better things to do, like writing or job application forms, or stabbing myself in the eye with a fork.

Funny you should say that.  I was talking to a friend last night and she suggested that I stab people in the eye with forks to cure my writers block.  This could be a win-win situation for us both?

Have any of you actually studied math?  I mean beyond differential equations.  I don't think anything I've seen in this thread counts as logic, it's reasoning (I know, semantics, but meaning is crucial in math).

Just for shits here's a nice little mind warping thought:

There are infinitely many numbers each with infinitely many digits that contain as substrings every single number.  The proof is pretty simple, but it's a neat way to start wrapping your mind around the concept of varying levels of infinity.

There is a total lunar eclipse that crosses the southwest of the US on May 21stish 2012.  I'm gonna be there, was hoping to do something more than just stand there staring into the Sun, but haven't really put much thought into it yet.

sending pre addressed, postage payed postcards for asylum inmates to write on and mail out might be funny, but you couldn't see the results...
I think not seeing the results is part of the joy.  I send out postcards with random shit on them and no return address.  What you don't know is way more amusing.
