Nah, the random number thing is slightly different. There is no true random number generator, they all approach predictability at a certain point.

I raise you any random number generator based on radioactive decay.  Impossible to predict (just possible to model in the macro-scale), and very easy to measure.

How about we make jarring posters advertising discordia? Posters that people will look at and be   . These are fundamentally different than posters like "23 things while you wait" as those are mindfuck posters and while they have the potential to shock people, these new posters will be more for the sole purpose of advertising discordia in a shocking fashion.

If you only shock people, many will often just shut down.  They'll simply put it in the category of "gross and disgusting things I don't want to think about", and move on from there.  It's important to tread the line between being shocking and the point that people think of as having no redeeming social value.  (Basically, if you are somewhat shocking and charming/funny, people will pay attention.  If you are -just- shocking, people will shut down and you lose your chance to blow their mind through more subtle methods.)

Naturally, there's gotta be at least one person throwing crap in there for parody, but it gets lost under the rest of it. They don't even try to hide their bias.

There are at least a few so called hacker groups that are not particularly liberal and would probably see 4chan as an adversary. Just because they're geeks doesn't mean they're on the right side (points at Eric Raymond's views on Global Warming and laughs).

Also, the govt. has no reason to DDoS 4chan;  they aren't any more of a threat then they have been in the past.  If anything, they make people feel like they're doing something without actually taking meaningful action.

The Trickster parties constantly, drinking himself into a stupor a couple times every week. He's not even eighteen and he's an inch away from being an alcoholic. He's apathetic in the extreme and amoral to an extent that is sometimes frightening.

He sounds like a brilliant, supremely bored high school student.  We had a few of those at my high school, although most tended to just consume drugs till they barely had three brain cells firing in the conjunction.  A lot of people like that seem to see the world as it really is:  decidedly bleak, unexciting, full of bland people going about their bland lives, and decide that it's easier to fuck with the normal people or ignore them, and instead find their own entertainment.

That's silly.  Everyone knows that the world is going to end on December 21st, 2012.  This May 21st nonsense is ridiculous.

Thinking about this more, the first test seems very strange.  None of my professors ever mentioned where they got their doctorate from, the only one I know what school she went to was only because she was still using her alumni email address.  Nor have I ever seen it mentioned in anybodies byline on a paper, its the school or research institute they're associated with now that people care about.

The second is strange too, what's the test for a physicist, test the things everybody agrees on?  Anybody who graduates with a degree in physics should know those, with limits on the degree of specialization, that doesn't tell you if they're competent to do more than schoolwork. The peer review process?  Doesn't seem to be helping economists.

The third is the only one that people everybody agrees are scientists would pass, damn near any field would get you drummed out if you got caught faking data, even economics.

The first test is silly.  Although, (in theory  ) someone with a PhD from a reputable university should be able to do independent research in physics, and likely already have (their thesis), and there is usually a certain quality of research coming out of an institution, this test has no place in determining what is 'real science'.

The test for "What is physics?" is "Does it empirically predict real results or explain a physical phenomenon?", and it's similar for most true sciences, even when you're talking about probabilistic things:  it's a matter of it working and having real, reproducible results in legitimate experiments*.  Good physicists are those whose teachings and conclusions meet this test, bad physicists are those whose teachings and conclusions do not.

By that test, psychology... might barely make the cut.  Economics is right out.  As it is, it seems like most social 'sciences' are just poorly done philosophy in disguise anyways.

*With a control and a single variation and no bias for sampling and etc. etc. etc.  Basically, for probablistic things, it should still be reasonably statistically valid.

From £3,300 a year to...well, it's not exactly clear as it hasn't been finalized yet, but it is believed Progressive Hero Nick Clegg, Deputy PM, Fighting The Power in his time off, got a concession of £9000 a year. 

For the moment.  This is just the tuition fee, it should be pointed out the cost of living is also rising in the UK, far more quickly than student loans are, and the method for assessing student loans is horrible, especially if your parents dont support you (like they didnt in my case).

In American Money:  That's an increase of $5152.62 to $14052.60 per year, not including room and board, which (assuming similar prices to what I'm paying here in the U.S. at Uni) would add something like $4k per year for food, and similar for board (for convenience, I'm going off of dining hall meal plans and the room and board I pay:  neither of these cover time over Christmas or the summer).  That's an increase from $13k/year to $22k/year.  That's essentially the difference between a mid-range college in the US and pushing past even the best public schools towards the cost of low end private schools.  It doesn't begin to scratch the costs of the top tier private schools (Yale, Cornell, MIT, etc. are est. $40-50k/year, including room/board), but definitely goes from "mostly affordable" to "FUUUUUUUUUUUU---".

You also have double the chances of being rejected because you're an asshole.

I don't mean to offend anyone on the forum, as I find you all to be fun people, but after contemplating what's happening here, I have come to a conclusion. No new, young discordians should listen to what you guys say. And I don't mean to say "you're saying bullshit". No. It's just that they should not listen to what you have to say about discordia. Atleast to me, discordia is more of a DIY worldview and I find it really weird that some noobs come here, with their ideas of discordianism and then they tune in to what you have to say. I've seen a lot of noobs who let themselves get slawolled up by the community and accept everything you guys have to say. Maybe it's the noobs. You don't go to a discordian forum to tune your way of thinking with the one of other discordians. The only point I see in logging into such a forum is to express YOUR opinion. Why the fuck do noobs get all apologetic when someone argues with them?

As a noob who is still figuring out his world view and how discordianism fits into it, I find it interesting to read other's work and see what parts resonate with what I already believe.  Sometimes, people make good points, but (and I try not to speak for myself in this one, because I realized this about three posts into the forum) a large part of our society tells us conflict is bad and getting along is good:  new people who don't realize that they have that shackle would be slow to get involved in conflict or drama, out of fear of "hurting someone", or w/e.  It's understandable and not, in my opinion, unreasonable.

This is not a fucking dogmatic religion, where you have to base your worldview on someone else's. As I see it it's more about creating your own worldview.

So seriously, noobs, the guys that post here have some cool things to say, but don't fucking aggree with everythin they say, or think, just because someone insulted you in a thread. Fuck, we're just a bunch of guys on a forum, why the fuck would you even care?
