What do you think a neurology-based treatment for mental illness would look like?

nanobots that can map out the activation of synaptic pathways during certain emotional states and then re-wire them to create a more pleasing and desired outcome?

If we're simply the software that's driving the hardware, then we're never who we were. The software is constantly rewriting itself.

If we're simply the hardware that the software is running on, then we're never who we were. The hardware is constantly doing a horrible job at repairing the wear and tear it's subjected to.

If we're simply the blueprint that the hardware is built from, then we're never who we were. The blueprint is constantly copying itself from a copy of itself, and we know how well that works out with a Xerox of our ass.

If we're simply an immortal soul that's temporarily inhabiting this meat sack before it returns to a higher plane of existence, I've got a lovely brochure for you and a donation plate.

If we're simply lizard people from a distant star system, come on over for dinner tomorrow night, brother.

Ahh, Arizona... the state that hydration forgot. It was an interesting place to be, but I can't say I miss it.

Tucson is awesome and you are a heretic.

But Tucson is vanishing.  It is slowly becoming like the sidereal universe.

Debatable, you are not wrong, and embrace change, even if it's just someone filling a blender with everything good in the world and adding a heaping spoon full of dogshit.

No, we allowed change out in your universe, and look what you got.

Pretentious guitar playing may never be the same.  :(

At least we still have Limp Bizkit </vomits>

if Hope Hicks really was the plague rat that infected Trump, I'm going to have to send her a nice thank you gift. Maybe a fruit basket.

And what you said was that having sex with people of different races is a way to prove you aren't racist, which is just stupid. But I'm getting the impression that that's how you roll.

Or, you could always look back and see that I didn't say that, but whatever. I guess it's easier for you to just follow on in your blind and inaccurate assertions. Not the first time you've decided to go that path.

If the terms are undefined, the question is meaningless.

Ugh, sophists.

Agreed

I didn't know there was a magical force-field that prevents racist people's genitals from contacting the genitals of people of different races. Huh.

I guess all that slave owner rape never happened... what a relief for history, huh?

"sweet, romantic intercourse" != rape

It also != proof of an absence of racism.

Apparently you completely missed what I was saying in some desperate search to argue against me, but that's ok, I've gotten used to you being a pseudo intellectual with a poor sense of humor. Cheers!

Apple Talk / Re: Open Bar: Fake News, Fake Bar

To be fair, this is the Open Bar.

Which is, also to be fair, not usually home to the degree of dick-waving I expect to see everywhere else on Peedee.

The dick-waving quotient increases by about 748% any time Thwack decides to grace us with his presence. He's still PeeDee-ing like it's 2006.

What can I say, sometimes elements of times past should return. There is a lot to be said for not taking yourself too seriously, and there are some here that really need to remember that.

I actually wouldn't be half surprised if it was your own guys.  If I wanted to create the perception Russia was fucking with the US, to build political and public support for more aggressive cyber-operations against them, this is what I'd do.

But it could also be the Russians fucking with you, a non-state actor or even dumb technical/human error, though very coincidental if so.

I don't know how much weight this carries, but a friend of mine seems to be about one step removed from Assange. He's pretty adamant that the hacks came from the CIA. Obviously I don't know, but this guy doesn't seem to have a reason to lie about what he's been told. Of course, whether he's been lied to is another matter.

I guess I'm just throwing more speculation into the pot of Who Fucking Knows.

Not even.  Assange was so blatantly in the tank for Trump, it's gotta be the Russians.

As you all try to piece this mess together, let's not forget the history of how Assange came to be known. He started off with the stated purpose of acting against the U.S. and other western nations that kept state secrets. He has a history of releasing information that's directly harmful to the U.S. and its interests. Let's also remember that Russia has a long and documented history of using cyber attacks and disinformation to directly interfere in governments with interests counter to theirs. Lastly, there is still the need/call to apply Occam's Razor to the world of international intelligence operations.

I've personally had too long of an involvement with the intelligence community to be able to, trusted to, or desire to comment much further on this.

If I had the ability to think impossible thoughts, would a brain that is limited by possibility have the ability to process the discussion of my impossible thought to the point where it could even recognize the impossibility of the thought being discussed?

Please define the bolded.

By defining impossible, would I not be limiting impossibility to that which is merely possible to those without the ability to process impossible thoughts?
