What did your house do to piss off that tree?? ye probably deserved it.

It's always great to see you around here, Mangrove. What kinda stuff have you been reading?

It's funny how this place feels calm and quiet in comparison to facebook. Like, facebook is the crowded night club, this place is a dive bar where you can hear each other talk.

Well, the rather hefty White Oak that poked holes in our living room and partially squished our car had a couple of things not in it's favor. Connecticut was ravaged by Gypsy Moths for about 3 summers and we had to get hooked up to the town sewer system. The grinder pump (I know, sounds like something else) was placed near to the tree and a number of people have suggested that the root system was probably compromised from that. Add in crap loads of rain, soft ground and strong winds and presto, it's 1:30am and it sounds like the whole fucking neighborhood went boom. Tree down, no power and water is running down the walls in the living room. Did we deserve it? Possibly?

That was Oct 30th 2017. We got the roof fixed before Xmas but the inside living room damage was on hold til 2 weeks ago after an expensive and protracted slug fest with State Farm. Currently Mrs & Mang and I are living out of the kitchen and one of the downstairs bedrooms while the living room is gutted and re-done.

Oh dear.

If you don’t already know the whole story on Trump, become educated on it. It is worse than the tabloids could come up with. It makes the most rabid, feverish ideas surrounding political figures you’ve ever heard of sound positively mild.

Also, there are literal no shit neo-Nazis running in gangs from city to city, holding “free speech rallies” that are a thinly veiled excuse to be publicly racist; beat up leftists, women, lgbt folks and non-whites; and occasionally kill people. They end up outnumbered and humiliated most times.

You’re out there missing the end of the world, Mang!

Trump? Shit. I was hoping it was Bob Barker from the Price Is Right.

Ok, so I might have exaggerated my media blackout.... But I am keeping a low intake. Right after the election I put a ban on political discussion in the house. I was upstairs noodling around on my saxophone and all I could hear from downstairs was the 'Charlie Brown cartoon teacher's voices' only more aggressive. It was wrecking my ability to focus on my practice. Anyway,  it's Mrs Mang' and her Fox addicted ex yammering on about the election. So I walked downstairs and yelled "EVERYBODY SHUT THE FUCK UP. I AM NOT GOING TO LISTEN TO THIS SHIT IN MY HOUSE FOR FOUR YEARS, ESPECIALLY OVER MY FOOD!!!!. Because no one was expecting me to stroll downstairs and flip out, it had the desired effect. Thus minimal Trump mentions and Mrs Mang' gave up watching the news because it was making her anxious and nauseous. She feels better and I don't have to listen to the microscopic analysis of every last molecule of McDonald's grease he happens to deposit onto his phone. I hope it's McDonald's grease....

Hey Guys!

Well, I gotta say I am really glad this place is still here. I haven't been involved in any forums for a very long time and a few nights ago I had this urge to check in and see if PD was still around or whether it was another Facebook induced wasteland.

And of course, having checked to see if PD still had I pulse, I went over to MysticWicks. No, I really truly did.  :lulz: It's as bad as you think it is, only with less people.

Biographical round up:

My business died circa 2015. I work in a Doctor's office. Mrs Mang' & I are on grandchild #3. I met Chick Corea in Albany (but only to irritate LMNO). A tree fell on our house 30th Oct 2016 and we got into a war with State Farm insurance (terrible company. Shun them at all costs). I still do not own a cell phone or a driver's license. I am running out of space to put all my books. I don't read/watch/listen to much news, so I am thoroughly out of the loop as far as pop culture goes. (Though I did hear that a game show host is running the country??)

What's everyone been up to?

Holy fuck! Facebook killed every Yahoo discussion group and yet, the Open Bar persists.

VICTORY!!!!!!!! :pax:

After 10 years in this business I am finally saying goodbye to table humpers, arm fondlers, leg patters, and other assorted gross and creepy dudes.

I'm one month in my new lease at a chiro and going to very carefully run my 3rd Groupon and no more questions as to whether I offer "service to other areas". If this doesn't work, weed shops are aplenty in these parts and I have tons more sales/smoking experience than these hippies.

Good luck, man. You deserve a sainthood. After 9 years in the bodywork biz, I quit because I was sick of being broke. My second job morphed into my primary job and now I am trying to figure out what my next move is. Weed shop probably isnt my least not since I had my hair cut short. In my 20s my long hair was practically a sign that read "By all means, please approach me and ask for drugs".

...on the political spectrum.

(Mang - providing useful context since 2004.)

Anyway, I thought you declared your 'victory' over us in 2013. How's that working out for you?

Boston Pride, Saturday. This was the joyous part of the weekend.

NOTE: Only I am WOMP-able. The two more handsome men are to be left alone, please and thank you.

[edit] I realize some of the noobs might not recognize me. I'm the Trophy Husband.

They have 'trophy husband shirts'? Damn. I offered to go to Mrs Mang's high school reunion in like 2006 or 2007 but only if I had a shirt with that caption. Bah...missed opportunities.

In other news, my current not-a-smartphone phone is dying.  As such, I've decided to move into the 2010s and get a smartphone.  Assuming, this time, the company in question doesn't decide my banking history is "too irregular" and refuses me service again, like they did in 2011 (all those drug dealers?  Yeah, that's cool.  Bank screws up your address?  FUCK NO, NO POCKET COMPUTER FOR YOU).

And then Cain joined the Pokémon Go horde.

[edit] Join us, we have cookies.

I told some students who went out to play Pokemon Go the other day to never come back here.

They thought I was joking.

At least they went outside to play. It's almost exercise.

An entire back piece as your first tattoo?

That's gonna hurt like hell.

But if you really want to do it, research your local artists, see who's specializing in the style you want, and shop around.  Not shop around as "find the lowest price", shop around to find a person you feel comfortable around, and who "gets" your idea.  Then work with them for a while to formalize the design.  If at any point before the needle goes in you don't feel right about them, bail.

Also, be prepared for several multi-hour sessions.  And yeah, it's gonna be expensive.  It should be expensive.  You want the best, because it's permanent.

Was going to say all of the above but Alphapance nailed it. Can only add to watch episodes of 'TATTOO NIGHTMARES' in order to underscore the importance of the above advice.

Dude, Pharcyde was awesome. I liked Labcabincalifornia too but Bizzarre Ride was definitely the best.

Agreed, Labcabincalifornia was ok but Bizarre Ride was way beyond that. Got to see them live in 1995..ahh...good times.

Have you seen this?    - What's Up Fatlip? documentary by Spike Jonze.

And while we are fueling the nostalgia, I just discovered this recently:

It's the ATCQ/Pharcyde mashup. I found the full album on youtube a few weeks back but angry lawyers at Sony have been..well...angry. Enjoy it while you can find it!

PS No love/hate for Slim Jesus? He's the Rebecca Black of Drill music.

2nding A Tribe Called Quest for 90s vibe
Adding: The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride to the Pharcyde album (2nd once not so much)
           Digable Planets - Reachin'
The Roots - looooonnnnnnnggggg before they were the Jimmy Fallon House Band (tm) I saw them in a tent in 1994.  Favorites are probably 'From The Ground Up' EP and 'Phrenology'.

Also this guy?

Thank me later

Hi Guys!

Just passin' through. Saw that my last post before yesterday was exactly a year ago, so I thought I would celebrate it.

Wizard Joseph - sorry the link didn't work. It means you miss out on AKK's 'troll lessons'. Shame he doesn't have a student testimonial section so we could write back and explain how he was completely terrible at trolling and his time at PD was measured in minutes rather than days. Still, not actually the worst of the 'UNLIMITED thread' offenders IIRC.

Basically, congratulations. I believe you are so far, the only person who climbed out of the 'unlimited' category and made it to regular poster. Think we need to study how that happened and leave a sticky for new members. 'The redemption of Wizard Joseph - how to turn the lemons of butthurt into the lemonade of acceptance'. (working title)

Ahh, the sweet citrus smell of group dynamics.

TWJ, I just realized that you might be the only person on PD to get your own Unlimited thread and still come back to become a regular and well-liked contributor. Kudos!

No regrets, no going back. If I hadn't met real people here that I came to admire first I'd have disappeared. As it stands I'm VERY happy to have found a peer group of decent folks. I kinda want a shirt that says

"PD .com taught me the true meaning of butthurt" or something.

I think this is unprecedented. Good thing you didn't take lessons from this guy:!__troll-kamp/articles

FWIW the German plastinated people tour, Body Worlds, is less shady than the other (plastinates only volunteer donor bodies who sign up while they are still alive, no Chinese prisoners). It's one of the most surreally beautiful things I've ever seen. The competitor one, Bodies, is all Chinese prisoners who did not give consent.

Thanks Nigel - this is good to know. I wasn't against the concept in principle. It was the sourcing of exhibits that bothered me. Mind you, how many museums out there are not full of plunder & bloodshed?

I think Body Worlds swings through CT every now and then, so maybe I'll get to see it and have less ick in my conscience!   :)
