Say what you will about the horror-mirth of it, this seems like a terrible business model.

Although, to be fair, I'm sure my idea is somewhat derivative as well... I'm not sure of what, but I'm sure its been done before.

I've really always wanted to play a Somnambulancer in a Mage game. I figured it would be pretty hilarious to have a character whose focus for everything is being asleep, and therefore is rarely actually physically present to get things done.

"Yeah, Ok guys, I think I can help you break into that warehouse. I just gotta go home and take some ambien, call me in the morning, let me know how it went."

QuoteRight now I'm thinking of going the route of a parapalegic/comatose with high levels of astral projection and mental powers, seems a bit min-maxy, but unless I have a better idea by the time I finish my coffee this morning... I'll probably stat it out.
That reminds me of a character concept I never implemented, called "The Sleepwalker". In a waking state he's just your average human being, perhaps even below average. Maybe he's possessed or something, but he has tremendous powers that only come out when he's unconscious. So he'll wander into a situation where he's hopelessly outclassed, get conked on the head, and suddenly start kicking ass and taking names.

Uh, you know that there actually is a Marvel character called the Sleepwalker who is pretty similar to exactly what you described, actually he's a weird otherworldly being who posesses the body of a mild-mannered college student, and can only manifest when that guy is asleep.

I've come up with a substantially funnier idea: a character with extra detachable arms who carries them around in a briefcase.

I was considering something along those lines myself, the "detachable limb" power has a lot of potential, especially when combined with say... cloning.

Right now I'm thinking of going the route of a parapalegic/comatose with high levels of astral projection and mental powers, seems a bit min-maxy, but unless I have a better idea by the time I finish my coffee this morning... I'll probably stat it out.

Ok, I think I see why my original idea is unacceptable, there was a post I missed back there.
I have a copy of the core book now, I'll try and think of a concept I like and I'll get it to you shortly.

I personally think all reporters who are willing to shill, monetarily or otherwise for a political party should get fired...but that's why I'm not allowed to run a major news company.

I couldn't agree more, I just think it's shady that they shit on Olbermann about it after letting Scarborough get away with it forever.

Journalistic integrity has been dead for years now, replaced with journalism as a mouthpiece, or journalism as entertainment.

I've always wanted to set a Mage the Ascension game in Metro City, it could work for M&M too... but "The City" is probably more thematically appropriate for the potential group here.

I guess I'll have to download a scan for M&M unless I can find a copy used in the near future, money is a bit tight for me right now.

Oh, and if this does go down... I want to play a Dwarf, an honest to god Tolkinienien fantasy style Dwarf. He can basically be an emissary from "The Mountain", he can be hypercritical of how much man has been able to propagate himself, but also a herald of the end of the age of man... whatever the the DM wants to do with the concept, I'm willing to play along.

I think I'll call him, Krothar the Imminent, and I'll use the Dorf-Translator in Dwarf Fortress to name him, and assist me in writing up some aspects of his personality.

Just started on Terry Pratchett...Read Thud yesterday.  Freeky loaned me a bunch of his stuff, and I'm going to the used bookstore to get all of the rest of it.

How have I managed to not read this guy for all this time?  He's a fucking GENIUS.

I just read that last month, It was my first Pratchett and coincidentally the only one I have lying around the house.

I have to concur with your statement as well, after reading that I feel I've been missing out.

My approach this year, I'm going to try and write up 50 NPC's, with 100 words of backstory per level words each, map out 1d6 different locations specifically, and try and outline about 1000 years of history or so for the particular region I'm beginning with.

Even If I fail, I'll have something to show for it.
