The ENTIRE market is looking a little scary right now.  The rise in the market can't possibly have enough liquidity to cover it, and the mode wage in the USA is now down to $18,250/year.

In short, the whole thing - the entire economy - is at the stern of the Titanic hooting and hollering about how fast they're rising.

I think Trump will do everything in his power to delay that until after he is out of office, which will do two things:

1.) it will make it even worse when it does happen, and

2.) it will exhaust what options we do have to soften the impact

The main reason he will do this is so he can tell us afterwards "See, I told you you couldn't live without me", but also because he and his ilk will then be able to buy up assets at a deep discount. They get whole warehouses of gold toilets; we get bread sandwiches (if we're lucky).

Also, both sides of the political spectrum will blame the other, and I'm sure he has a plan to capitalize on that as well.

Yeah, that I don't spend on rent and food will go towards the PhD fund, which is actually looking pretty healthy.  I may have to buy a house instead if property prices crash post-Brexit.

The American housing market is about to bubble again. Dunno how much that affected prices across the pond last time.

Funny story: the area I live in is one of the highest growth areas of the country. If I managed to sell my house (which I bought near the bottom of the last crash) at the peak of a good bubble, I could pretty much undo most of the bad decisions of my youth.

So I've got that going for me, which is nice.

Well they're back to bundling crappy mortgages and letting my friends buy houses, so you've probably got like six months if you actually wanna pull off that trick.

Dang, so soon? I might clear $60k if I sold my house right now. That's not quite enough to cancel out the heartbreak of ten years of attempted self-employment, or the heartbreak of six years of "Fuck it, I guess I'll just go to college.", or the heartbreak of five years of "I went to college for this?", or the heartbreak of two years of "LOLWTF? Why am I in college, again?!!?!? "

Also, the bonds market is apparently inflated as well, and my pitiful 401k doesn't give me the option to move my assets into Guns n' Beans Futures.

I guess all I can really do at this point is continue to endure the heartbreak of 58hrs/wk until that well dries up. :whack:

I've been thinking lately about trying something like translating my posts into Russian, and then back into English. Not necessarily Russian. Russian just seems more topical.

I did something like this with the famed Uday Incident on Newsweek comments.  Funny thing:  The right-wingers loved it and liberals all wanted me to die of the mange, even though I was obviously parodying the right.

I quit after "The Tragic Death of Twin Brother Qusay", because there's no fucking way I could have topped that.

Did the right-wingers think you were with them, or did they get it, and thought it was funny? I've found that a lot of right-wingers assume that you are one of them, unless you tell them explicitly otherwise. It's part of their "we are a majority" delusion, I think.

I think sexual innuendo can be highly appreciated here, it just has to be clever... which is hard. Not making it 20% of your posting style is a good start. It shouldn't be something just randomly inserted as if to make a quota, or something.

I came rolling in here with a shtick I had been driving around on the internets on several other boards for a few months. It worked better as a late stage slow-troll tactic than it did just rolling in on a group with, though there were certain types of people and conversations where it can still work. Here, though, was mostly just people who had already heard that one.

Is this something you do (or did) as a member of a group? Is it your shtick, or is it something normally used in, like a gaggle, or a swarm?

I always assumed the deep state was just the latest version of illuminati/freemasons/reptiles/aliens-run-the government

It always just sounded like "Checks + Balances = Fascism" to me.

It's funny because it's true.

Hey, Look! It's Trayvon/Zimmerman 2.0, but this time there are witnesses and maybe a video of the incident.

Direct subsidies to farmers are a bad idea. Not because farmers don't need help and not because they shouldn't be helped but because it gives them a bunch of money to invest in changing careers at the moment their chosen career looks like a bad idea.  A massive increase in food stamps would be just as good for farmers while also ensuring hungry people get fed

Prolly more like "Direct subsidies to giant agribusiness conglomerates are a bad Idea, because they will just use that money to invest in the private prison system."

or something.

We'll being probed by greys is a time honored conspiracy trope along with cattle abduction, sadly someone fixed the gas leak and the collective IQ went up and those conspiracies went out of fashion.

I'm not so sure about any IQ increase. Seems like the stupidity was just harnessed and redirected towards more actionable stupidity.

I'm just as stupid as ever.  I checked.

Just so long as it's actionable, I don't see the problem. No point in being stupid if you don't have realistic, clearly defined, stupid goals.
