This throws into question everything I've been taught about "when in doubt, charlie out".

It almost sort of sounds like a peopleofWalmart-esque website based on the URL, but I can't logically discern a sequence of events that would lead you there.

Navy program? Well there's your fucking problem.  Here's some long-winded anger that nobody asked for:

Imagine, if you will, a big brick building that serves as the Navy's "detox" facility.  It has two wings, one for the rehabilitation "classrooms", and the other for sleeping quarters.  This place is full to the brim with people who either want help, need help, or neither want or need help but were forced to go to this place anyways.  The third category is approximately 80% of the people there.  The fullness of this building, in fact, is so constant that people actually seeking help for severe problems are often forced to wait around six months just to get in, due to the amount of people currently interred there.

You are split into groups of about 8, and everyone gets to get up and talk about their feelings, and all kinds of other fun stuff like art therapy, and some other therapies, however the whole process is so expedited that over the month you may be there you won't be able to utilize any of these therapies more than about twice.  All of these enjoyable things are led by your group's counselor, who is some dude who went through a correspondence course and was deemed an "expert", which in Navy terms literally means exactly nothing.  There are also psychologists.  However, all of the groups currently in the building (about 10-12), share these two psychologists, so you will again probably only see them twice during your interment.

The average denizen is somebody who maybe slipped up once, had a few to many drinks around the wrong people, and got turned in to the (command) authorities.  There's also the possibility that you could accidentally say something stupid, and if the wrong person hears it, oh, you know what would help you? Navy detox.  There's some cases where they can't quite force you to go there because it would be unfair, but they can "suggest" you go there so strongly, that you "magically" take their advice and wind up there.  The whole system is essentially designed to take the pressure off of Navy commands in order to alleviate them of responsibility.  It turns an issue from hey, maybe this command is so stressful or so backwards or everyone has a stick so far up their ass that it literally drives people to drinking and that seems like a problem we should work at into hey, this guy is a drunk, it's not our fault.  And my personal favorite part, is that if you are sent to this facility and come back, and are LITERALLY EVER caught drinking again, you can be immediately discharged, so that they can say hey, this command isn't at fault.  It's that broken Navy rehab program, not fixing this guy.

I would even go so far as to say that a lot of the reason people show improvement during the program is that it generally gets you away from the constant stress of wherever you were working before.

So the whole program is kind of a complete fucking joke, so it doesn't surprise me that they say hey, wait guys, we are super-legit, we cured addictions you didn't even know existed.

(Disclaimer:  I do think the program is a good idea, because there is a lot of stress and a lot of people I knew in the military could use some better coping mechanisms, and there are some people who got some good out of it.  Sadly they are the minority, and without a pretty major overhaul, it's esentially worthless.)

Apple Talk / Re: Open Bar: Arguments About Turtles, All the Way Down

I'm going to make a prime time tv show.
It will be called :
Sigmund and Freud - about two bigshot Hollywood psychologists who take on cases involving high-profile lions, tigers, and panthers.  The pilot episode would be about counseling Simba, who in a shocking twist actually wanted to kill Mufasa in order to steal Sarabi from him.

Bonus: When the show starts to get stale, it can (d)evolve into a Lost-esque mystery about how Sigmund and Freud may have been the same person at one point, and eventually they discover that one of them is Sigmund Freud's Superego and the other one is his Id.
They then must decide if they should find a way to merge back together, but aren't sure if they're comfortable.sharing the same corporeal form.
Or maybe they'll fight crime.

Literate Chaotic / Re: Comic Reviews and discussions

So I picked up the new lady Thor comic.  Still too early to tell if it'll be any good, but it doesn't seem bad so far.  The only thing I don't understand is that Marvel insisted that this was not something that should be called Lady Thor, because she is, in fact, Thor.  Because she has the hammer and all that.  At the same time, though, actual dude Thor,  son of Odin and stuff, is still very much around, generally getting his shit ruined because he doesn't have a hammer.  So this lady Thor who should be referred to as actual Thor even though actual Thor is still a thing confuses me, at least until they give her a name.

That's why it's not stopping anyone.  That and the fact that everything it says is as moot or important as you make it.

Ohhhhh, the FSM!

Hahaha I support the right to Colander!

See I think Discordia needs to fight for it's own religious rights as well.  Wonder what it would take to win the right for my DL photo to be taken with my sherlock in my mouth.  Though that's probably more subgenius than discordian.

from the PD:
POEE has not registered, incorporated, or otherwise chartered with the
State, and so the State does not recognize POEE or POEE Ordinations, which is
only fair, because POEE does not recognise the State.

But that's not really stopping anyone.  I think it's just too much paperwork.

Heh. Just living up to thread title.

Yeah I figured

There's a bunch of bands I'd like to see in there, if for no other reason than I like them a whole bunch more than I like some of the bands who have gotten in.
like Iron Maiden, or Judas Priest, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Little Feat, or The Marshall Tucker Band.

I'd also really like to see King Crimson inducted, but I think a lot of people forget how badass they are.  I'd also like to see how they would select which members of the band they would invite, because they've had a ton of different people since they became a band.

Oh, and Ministry would like to have a word about the whole "Industrial" speil up there.

As would KMFDM. And Pigface.

Woah man.

I didnít say they were the only industrial band.  In fact, I like Ministry far more than I like NIN.  What Iím trying to say is that the way I see it, NIN is more in the spotlight, bringing industrial to a wider audience, influencing more people, and all that jazz.  I would also consider NIN to be a more diverse band musically, and since Iím getting all subjective now, Ministryís first few albums were synth-pop garbage.

KMFDM I canít argue against.

Pigface was kind of just leftovers from Ministry.

Also I have no idea what criteria the Hall of Fame uses when selecting which bands actually get inducted.  Probably just middle-aged white men on a board or something, so I couldnít even begin to guess who actually gets in.

The Police are already in the Hall of Fame, and Iím not particularly fond of Stingís solo career.

Lou Reed is one of the most influential figures in rock and roll history, so it seems he should be a no-brainer.

NWA seems like it would be another obvious choice.
I also love Bill Withers, and would be pretty sad to see him not make it.

Stevie Ray Vaughan strikes me as another huge musician, and one of the best guitarists of all time.

NIN Iím not a huge fan of, but I would be behind them based on the fact that they are THE industrial band.  Like if anybody could single-handedly define that genre, it would be NIN.  By that token, however, Green Day could be seen as THE pop-punk band, with both critical and commercial success, sometimes even both at once.  So while it seems disgraceful to put the likes of Green Day in the same hall as say, The Band, or Muddy Waters, or other awesome musicians, you canít deny that they are, in fact, a rock and roll band, and that they have been somewhat influential and successful.

Kind of on the fence about Paul Butterfield.  I like him, but Iím not sure he had enough of a career to really consider his career amazing.  He did some amazing blues though.

I donít feel strongly one way or another about the rest of them.

About the waiter one.. doesn't the root homo mean 'same' not man? As in homogeneous? Homo Sapien meaning thinker that is the same?

I think it meaning "same" is a derivative from one language, while he was referring to the genus type of homo, derived from Latin.

http://www.salon.com/2014/09/25/kansas_to_host_a_massive_sex_toy_auction_in_the_face_of_ongoing_budget_crisis/

This is a thing?

It makes sense fiscally, you know, I'm not sure why it's such a big deal politically.  Asset auctions have been around forever.

On the bright side, you could potentially get a lot of 50 vibrators for 10 bucks, which means you would be set on gift baskets for a long time.

Does it ever strike you odd that despite your vehement anti-racism stance, demeaning the handicapped is totally okay?

You'd think it would, but then my persecution complex gets in the way and then I'm not real person anymore.

Know what I mean?

I think so.

Right.  So fuck off and go talk to someone you recognize as a human being, should such people exist.

Now now, I do recognize you as a human being, neither above nor below me.  I just don't see eye to eye with you on some things.  I was curious is all.  I'll leave you alone now.
