Apple Talk / Re: Happy Turkey Day You Fuckin Turkeys!

You need to fill up the sink with nice warm soapy water, then threaten to dump his tea in there unless he does the dishes.

 :lulz: :lulz: :lulz:

Consider it done!

That sounds lovely!

Here's a step by step blueprint to re-creating our Thanksgiving day feast.

1. Brown a packet of super lean ground beef.
2. Open the box of taco fixings.
3. Add the seasoning packet to the ground beef.
4. Heat white corn tortilla shells in the toaster oven
5. Shred cheese, dice tomatoes and avocado
6. Pile it all together in the shells
7. Place on paper plates and eat
Drinks = ice cold milk
Dessert = Thorntons chocolates straight off the plane from England

Liam has claimed one tiny piece of America, aka our flat, in the name of The Queen and planted the Union Jack outside as proof. Apparently, the English celebrate Thanksgiving by eating tacos and  Thorntons chocolates, buying purple see-through laptops, preening their mustaches, and not doing any dishes.

My gf's one got a bad virus this weekend, thought we removed it, reared its head again yesterday, had to do a full reinstall and crap :x

And she's on a deadline for homework, I think I spent at least 2 days on the thing this week :(

It's working again now, but it's got hardware troubles too (battery goes dead very fast, and random other stuff fails too) so she might be getting a new one.

It's almost as if they time it for the holidays, eh? :)

Yes, yes it is. Hope your gf is able to get a new machine soon.

The thermal drive in Liam's finally died this week, even though it's sitting on a cooling pad. The batter crapped out over a year ago, so he has to keep it plugged in at all times.  And we also had a virus that wouldn't go away - on both laptops, in fact.  Poor Liam's not wired into anything at the moment and it's driving him mad. He's opened the kitchen blinds and is sitting on the sofa pretending the window is the world's dullest screen saver, and he just tried inserting the usb into the cat. For some reason, the cat took offense and he's off pouting on the bed.

Hope the hard drive swap goes smoothly. And I like the look of your new laptop.

This must be the week for computer death. Liam's laptop just bit the dust and there's nowhere open to buy a new one today. We're actually planning on getting up at 4 fucking 30 in the morning to hit the Black Friday sale at Staples.

Thai Green Curry

2 Chicken breasts
1 can coconut milk, or low fat coconut milk
Thai Green Curry Paste
Diced onion to taste
Any kind of vegetable you like - I like mushrooms, very thin slices of carrots and sweet red peppers.

1) To make the curry, cook the paste in a large non-stick wok or large frying pan over a low heat, for 5 minutes. Cut the chicken into strips and add to the pan with the chopped onion. Cook for 5-8 minutes or until no longer pink.

2) Stir in the coconut milk and veggies and simmer for about 10 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through. Serve with rice.

Almost nobody (I only say "almost" because I'm sure someone, somewhere, is an exception) carries a doctor's note about their pacemaker or having had cancer. There's never been a reason for them to have to. I don't carry a doctor's note about brain tumor or my heart problem... hell, I don't even have anything documenting it at all. It's all filed away in my medical records.

My brother-in-law's the exception to that rule. He carries a dr's note when he travels because he's a transplant patient and needs his anti-rejection meds. If he doesn't have a note, security makes him check his meds in his baggage, which would be a disaster if the bag got lost. The note also excuses him from being scanned because he's had so many already that it's a possible health hazard.

Anansi Boys is cool. I liked American Gods better, but this one has a bit more humour in it. It's set in the same "universe" btw.

That's how I felt about Anansi Boys, too. It was great fun and had a lot of humor, but American Gods is a tough act to follow.

When people don't respond to your posts or PMs within 30 seconds, it's because they hate you.  When the board is dead, it's because nobody wants to talk to you.  When someone cuts you off in traffic, they did it on purpose, just to piss you off.  People call your cellphone just to eke out that little bit of extra annoyance you get from being startled by the ringtone.  When people don't answer YOUR calls, it's because they're tired of you.

The mailman is in on it, too.  But you knew that.

When someone ahead of you doesn't accelerate fast enough for you when the light turns green, it's because they're trying to make sure you get stuck at the intersection for another red light.  If your SO is being quiet, it's because he/she is mad at you.  Don't get him/her talking though, because the next thing he/she says will be "Let's just be friends".

And whether you can hear it or not, the universe is laughing behind your back.

You disguised your voice and called my work number for tarot readings at least three times today, didn't you?

If not, the universe is not only laughing behind our backs, it's fucking with us big time because all my clients are saying pretty much what you just said.

 Chile Rellenos Burritos

4 roasted, peeled and seeded poblano or Anaheim chiles
(fresh chiles are best, but you can use canned)
4 fairly thick slices of pepper jack or mexican cheese.
1/2 cup flour
3-4 eggs separated (# of eggs depends on their size)
olive or canola oil
salt and pepper to taste

1 box rice-a-roni spanish rice or homemade mexican rice (see recipe below)

1 can refried beans

4 large flour tortillas

Prepare batter
whip egg whites until stiff. Slowly fold in yolks and a pinch of salt.

Cook chiles
Slit open each chile and insert one slice of cheese. Make sure you leave enough room that the edges of the chile will still close. One at a time, roll the chiles in flour, dip them into the batter and then into the hot oil. Cook until batter is a crisp golden brown. Remove chiles from the oil and drain on paper towels.

Prepare burritos
Spoon a layer of refried beans onto each tortilla, top with one of the stuffed chiles, cover with a layer of the rice, fold into burrito shape, heat in 350 degree oven for ten minutes. Serve with salsa, guacamole, sour cream, etc.

Mexican Rice

You will need:
1 cup long grained Rice
3 tablespoons Oil
1/2 Onion, diced small
1 1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/4 teaspoon Chili Powder
2 1/4 cups Water or canned Chicken Broth

Saute the onion and rice together in oil until the rice is dark golden brown and you can see through the onions. You'll need to stand there and stir this pretty much constantly. Add water or chicken broth, chili powder, and salt. If you love cumin, add some of that, too. Reduce heat, put a lid on it, and wait until the rice is fluffy and and ready to eat - approx 10-15 mins.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

almost done with it, actually.

I liked that book.

Ur by Steven King on kindle for the pc, and it's freaking me out a little bit because the plot is built around a kindle.

Korma rocks!

We bought a new stock pot yesterday, so tonight's dinner is vegetable beef soup w/fire-roasted tomatoes. Fresh rolls from bakery to go with it.

I'm currently reading "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest" by Stieg Larsson. It's the third in the series and I'm liking it much better than the first and second, although they were also excellent.  Unfortunately, there won't be any more books by this author because he died soon after submitting the manuscripts for publication.
