I just don't understand any kind of absolute egalitarianism philosophy. Whether it's branded as anarcho-capitalism or straight anarchism or sockfucking libertarianism, it always misses the same point.

I've also been thinking of starting a new track, with a few basic rules.

I'm open to suggestions for the rules end. I'd like to keep them pretty minimal.
the best one i've considered so far is  along the lines of participants using only
instruments that they aren't especially skilled with. that would take guitar away
from myself, for example, but would leave piano, drums, my mouth, tin cans, etc...

thoughts? (The tentative title for this track would be "Illusion of Order")

I did notice that a little.

when i was editing it, i used part pitch shift, part resampling to get those effects.

also, apologies for my impatience earlier. I know better.

Or Kill Me / Viva los Malditos
September 13, 2010, 09:20:34 PM
[In a mood. Prepare to be ranted.]

For some, the weight of the notion that we never really cross the abyss is crushing.
The jury is still out on my disposition. Here, we try to bob and weave around the mountainous
ridges and cavernous valleys at the edge of it all, but we find ouselves moving full circle, back
where we started. Welcome to the island of Daath. This place is nailed to the tree of life, just
above Tiphereth. In fact, this place is Life, itself; Life is Daath.

Quicksand surrounds us. We stand on a plot of firm ground with no safe path which
leads us from where we are, to where we would like to be. The wait is excrutiating, and we
have witnessed the braver of us foolishly attempt to ford the quicks in vain. Scientists have
demonstrated that our cozy patch of calm and safety is also sinking in the sand, at a rate
directly proporational to the crushing of our hopes. So we stand in mourning for our own eulogy,
as panicked egos grasp for "Alternatives" to our "Predicament". This is sweet talk for "how to get
our asses unfucked."

It seems that the only solutions they can contrive hinge on some sort of salvation by
someone or something from beyond the quicksand. Meanwhile, homemakers sweep their porches
off into the quick and tidy up a bit; no sense in dying with a dirty welcome mat. People continue
to trade each other scraps of paper that used to mean something. A growing number of people
have taken to the notion that ignoring our situation can make it go away, but even the most
oblivious of us knows what's happening. So we shuffle about , waiting for the unforgiving cesspool
of time to wash over us and deliver us to the other side. Not the other side of the sand marsh,
where one can just make out the edge of a serene, lush prairie. No, this other side doesn't offer
hope. It's not even a tangible place. It's just an end- no joy, no pain, no love or fear; just nothing.

There is another solution. It isn't very popular. We could, if we so chose, dismantle the aging
structures we've built on this island. That might slow the sinking, some. We could also use the scraps
to build a bridge. The work will be tiring and the journey across the marsh will be dangerous, since we
only have ancient materials with which to work. Surely, many of us will choose to wade into the quicks,
or wait patiently to be engulfed on dry land, rather than live free or die scared. For some, too much has
been invested in this island to even contemplate it; for others, the green pasture seems like an illusion.
Somehow, though, I'm sure there will be enough of us to tear it down and leave this place.

Rats are the smartest thing on a sinking ship. Hand me that hammer, would you?

-Iron Sulfide,
Damned if I don't.

erm, listening to it now, i think it's actually more than an octave. i was basically making a bunch of
edits and saving the successive results as new files, so it's hard to tell from memory.

i resampled the tempo and pitch, so the beats, currently won't mesh, but i can fix that.

no, it's a half step short of an octave.

i can make it a perfect octave, though.

as promised:

It's beginning to sound pretty funky, imo.

I doubled the pre-mandolin track, pitch shifted the bass,
chopped the mandolin, and gave it a few minor delay tweaks.

oh, and i glitched out the drums...sounding vaguely Aphex Twin.

also included: a second track (Musical Snuff Box) below the main one.
I basically just took the whole thing and sped it up x2 for shits.

I was thinking about taking your mandolin and chopping it up, like Alphapance did with my guitar when he laid down the bass. I have work today, though, so probably sat. or sun.

Can't promise I won't make it suck, though.

Oh, and Ofganza- if you go back to the previous pages in this thread, you'll see the links.

We've been using http://soundcloud.com to host the music.

s'not bad for not having an idea to begin with. i think it might be good to have an ever growing selection of pieces to
borrow from, but that's just going to come with time and actually making tracks.

Did you, by chance, save a file of just the mandolin?

OH!

i particularly hate it when people say "Hint" when they mean "Tip"; I have a boss that say's "I'll give you a hint" all the time, when really he means "This is how I want this shit done."

My concern was more for the fact that you're married to someone and find you need emotional stimulation elsewhere. And if it's an "open" relationship, my assumption would be that this has been the situation for some time, now. Now if "open" meant you were swingers, that would slant my perception of things a bit differently. Regardless of my assumptions, therapy is usually not a bad thing.

Ewwww swingers are gross! Sorry, that's just me being judgmental. :)

I think that before you pass judgment on people getting "emotional stimulation" outside of their marriages, you should A: consider the fact that it'snot very healthy for anyone to rely on ONLY ONE person for all their emotional needs (see: "friends and family") and B: learn a little more about what polyamory means and why people choose it. Monogamy is not the One True and Only Way as Ordained By The Universe.

where, Nigel, did I pass judgement in that? I do tend, myself, towards a monogamous model, but that's not at all why I suggested therapy. Do you, Nigel, think that therapy is a bad thing, or somehow not beneficial? All I was trying to do was float the possibility of therapy out there without being all, "DUDE, GET UR ASS TO A SHRINK" because that's neither cool, nor helpful. I also didn't want to spiral into a huge block of text, so I kept it simple.

A: Show me where I said anybody should rely on one person. The emotional stimulation I was referring to was, in context, obviously romantic in nature.  (and if you think getting your romantic emotional needs satisfied by your Friends and Family is cool, that's some odd shit there...)

B:poly = many; amor = love. I'm quite aware of what being a slut is. And if that's what a person is, far be it for me to condemn them anymore than for being black, gay, schizophrenic or paraplegic. It is what is.

Now you gonna keep needling me, or what?
