Well, thank God they don't have assault rifles, anyway.  That has to count for something.

Hopefully they'll pass some laws to ban eating children, in order to prevent this sort of thing from happening.

Got drunk, didn't tell an evangelical that I don't like evangelicals this time. I did insist that other people start with Hornsby's before they broke into the woodchuck granny Smith apple, though, as the latter is hard to get on my side of town and therefore precious in my sight. I bought them both.

I've discovered an excellent cider mill called Angry Orchard.  Dunno how wide spread they are, but their cider is yummy.  I greatly prefer it to either Hornsby or Woodchuck.

That's not being an asshole, that's just being a bearer of bad news.  It's better to know sad things like that so you can mourn.

Ok, another fairly simple recipe, but one I haven't heard anyone else using.

This is for 3 tacos

3 corn tortillas
one can refried beans (Sometimes I refry my own beans, but that's outside the scope of this recipe)
3-12 strips bacon, depending on taste, should be a multiple of 3
shredded cheese (I use cheddar, my wife prefers taco blend, I am not a fan of shredded cheese in a bag and I don't want to hand shred more than one kind, it feels like too much work)
3 nopalito pickled cactus sections
hot peppers, at the moment I am using pickled jalapeno slices, however diced habanero is also quite good

Fry Bacon in a skillet on medium low heat, if you are frying 9 or 12 pieces of bacon you'll want to pour off about half the grease, otherwise you want it all.  This is a good time to dice the peppers if you are using diced ones, and shred the cheese.  The bacon should be crispy, but not burnt.  The heat should not be enough to boil the grease.

Once all the fat is melted off the bacon put the tortillas in the skillet.  Let them fry for approx 30 seconds then flip.

put cheese, peppers, beans, and bacon into taco.  Put cheese in first so it can melt.

Fold tortilla over, the time frying should have it crispy, but not brittle yet. 

Cook until cheese is all melted.

Sadly, the 2012 elections proved that the AMERICAN™ people don't care about drone strikes.  Obama probably feels he can get away with it without any repercussions.

I probably should re-read it too...did anybody mention how this crap is drilled into kids? All those fairy tales where the future princess is the prettiest pre-rich girl in the kingdom (right down to her teensy little feet) and her evil, murderous stepsisters are butt ugly. Stepmom is usually a looker but ZOMG OVER 30 and not near as pretty as Teenage Future Princess, who she tries to put a hit on.

That may be partly Disney's spin on it.  Snow White was indeed the most beautiful woman in the kingdom  (or the fairest one of all, in the story's words) but her step mother was the most beautiful until she grew up, and was still the second most beautiful after that.  The dwarves meanwhile were ugly little fuckers.  It was her step mom's emphasis on beauty as the most important attribute that had her causing trouble in the first place.

To use one that makes sense.  Something beautiful is something which is pleasing to look at.  We want to look at beautiful things and we enjoy looking at them.

If that is an acceptable definition then people really do get more beautiful as we get to know them, assuming they have good attributes for us to get to know.  I'd much rather look at my friend than some random well built stranger, my friend is more beautiful to me.

Another interesting, if tangential thought that has already been mentioned a few times in this thread... personality and familiarity always override physical beauty. Therefore, physical beauty is largely an issue in first impressions. If you were to ask me what, for example, Hoopla looks like, I would have a hard time describing him beyond shaved head and glasses, because to me, Hoopla is far more personality than appearance. I don't think he'd appreciate "he looks HILARIOUS!" 

Likewise, I have an old friend who, occasionally, my new friends will meet and be all "OMG WHO IS YOUR FRIEND HE'S SO SO HOT" and I'm all THAT GUY? REALLY????

That's that redefinition of the word that I was talking about, the conflation with attractive or good. The very thing I'm arguing against.

I know the definition of beauty is outside the scope of this thread, but I think we might get a more productive flow of conversation if we have a clear concise definition given for exactly what beauty means in the context of this thread.

I will never understand this kind of thing and the kind of backstabbery it probably involves.  All I understand is that something is fucked up, and probably almost nobody even cares anymore.

This thread.  I find myself becoming more hostile the more I read it, because I'm not sure if we're taking into account what the viewer thinks is beautiful, or what is going on. OP states that fat people are ugly.  They are maybe to you. I'm not about to say that there aren't ugly people, because there are.

I will fully admit to missing the point entirely if I have, but hey, FUCK YOU, because I qualify as ugly, and struggle daily to see myself otherwise, which is probably a point you were trying to bring up, but unless you have some sort of whatever I don't even know what the fuck, just fuck right the hell off.

The point, for someone who is actually ugly seemed to look like this

"No, you aren't beautiful, stop trying to define yourself as something you aren't and realize that your value as a human being doesn't rely on your physical appearance.  Stop trying to be beautiful and emphasize your strengths instead"

Come to think of it, that seemed to be basically the message for someone who is beautiful too.  Since beauty fades, don't rely on it, build up your other strengths so they'll be there when you aren't gorgeous any longer.

Also, I fucking hate that about glasses. You need to be wearing them in order to find them quickly. At least with my level of myopia.

I don't mind as long as they are where I always put them.  Sometimes when I go to bed intoxicated though they aren't.  That is when I panic and feel all helpless.
