It's funny how the position for boot-licking is so close to the one used for curb-stomping.

This is a fine place indeed for moderately unshitty people. Welcome!

Very interesting article! Thanks for sharing it here. I'm still digesting it and intend to go back and re-read it.

QuoteOrangutans are the only great ape species with two types of mature adult males. One type, the flanged male, develops secondary sexual physical traits. These include a large flanged disc-shaped face, a long flowing coat of hair and a large throat sac that allows the male to make deep vocal calls over long distances. The flanged male becomes very intolerant of other males and grows in stature to be around twice the size of a female. The second type of male does not develop secondary sexual characteristic and is similar in size to an adult female. Unflanged males are unable to make long calls and are much more tolerant of other males. Both types of male will successfully reproduce with females.  All males have the potential to develop secondary sexual characteristics but it is still unclear why the development is suppressed in some males.

Cool beans. All you Need Is Kill is now on my reading list. Maybe someday I'll watch the Tom Cruise movie, but I'm in no great rush to do so.

Since this is the quote thread, I feel like I should probably add a quote to my derail. To the Vonnegut mine!

"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful what we pretend to be."

Glad Alty pointed out the "south hemisphere" bit. It seems those dastardly globalists have been successful with their brainwashing and propaganda.

Also I haven't seen "The End of Tomorrow" with Tom Cruise. Would anyone like to venture as to why this clear-minded flat-Earther chose that movie in particular to illustrate their point of making "the concept of aliens more believable, the next phase" to us round-Earther sheeple?

I mean... is it better programming than the "Independence Day" movies, or [insert almost any sci-fi movie here]?

I too am curious to see the teenage assessment.

I am also enjoying the heck out of No Man's Sky. It's a super-mellow experience.

In the unlikely event you ever find the Robert Anton Wilson star system, look for planet Prometheus Rising. The sentinels there are unaggressive, and there are loads of minerals -- huge, abundant pillars of them -- just waiting to be mined.

Good times.

I'm allllllmost done reading Lewis Hyde's Trickster Makes This World. I did a quick forum search, and I see a reference to this work by Cain. I thought maybe I'd seen a reference to the book here and that's why I picked it up, but it must have been elsewhere.

All I can say is that I wish I had read this book years ago. Not only is its prose beautiful, many of it's themes reinforce my understanding of Discordianism.

...the loser is that person who chooses a single side of a contradiction. The sign of such singlemindedness is contradiction without humor rather that contradiction with a smile. Here it may help to resurrect the old meaning of "humor": the word once referred to fluids (this the bodily "humors") and comes ultimately from a Latin root (umor) having to do with moisture, liquid, dampness. To treat ambivalence with humor is to keep it loose; humor oils the joint where contradictions meet. If humor evaporates, then ambiguity becomes polarized and conflict follows.

Absolutely stellar. Recommended reading for all. My closest friends will probably be getting a copy of this book from me for Christmas this year.

I want to see a thread containing syllabi on courses that are not yet taught, premised upon things not yet here.

Yesterday, upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today,
I wish, I wish he'd go away...

From what I know about you, Roger, which is primarily based on your writings here, I like you. I don't feel your writings are disingenuous, nor do they resemble a plea to be liked. You strike me as a quality human being and a critical thinker. No one is perfect, and you can't please all the people all the time. I appreciate that you're honest with yourself, and I hope you'll continue to share that honesty with us, even when (especially when?) that honesty is biting or uncomfortable.

Cheers!
