I realise this may be a stupid question, but is there no requirement to be a lawyer to be Attorney-General?

That presumes Trump cares about requirements anymore.

This is one of those days where once the bad news stops coming I start getting incredibly nervous.

I keep refreshing but the horror stays maddeningly an hour or so old!

Wednesday Night Massacre. I'm calling it now.

Oh, absolutely.

That it happened is expected but reinforces that famous quote from Goethe's Faust as it applies to our current reality. My reaction is not surprise, merely impotent outrage.

And thus we enter the End Times, as the rule of law crashes into the abyss and we are left with an unstable child ruling an autocracy of fear and hate.

In any other timeline, the above would be the end of the first book in a trilogy of unoriginal young adult fantasy novels. Here, it's a legitimate statement of the world we live in.

Bets on which position Hannity is going to be offered?  :lulz:

The Trump administration runs on inverse meritocracy, so he'll get something particularly high level. Perhaps Attorney General.

I'm not joking.

In theory, Trump could still potentially make a move so abhorrent that all the Republicans would rise up against him.

In theory.

In practice, if they didn't throw him out on his ass after Charlottesville or publicly labeling himself a nationalist, I can't think of anything he couldn't get away with, especially given he now owns every Republican ass in the same way that a person owns their pet dog.

Well, the Acting Attorney General doesn't like Mueller much, but I believe a permanent replacement has to be approved by the Senate before they can interfere.

You might want to reconsider.

EDIT: To be clear, this isn't saying you're wrong in a de jure sense. It's just noting we all haven't quite gotten used to the clear fact that the law isn't exactly stopping anyone in this administration from doing whatever the hell they want.

Apparently Rosenstein went to the White House just now?https://twitter.com/KellyO/status/1060275012719050759?s=20

If they haven't already begun to yell and scream, they near certainly won't — save maybe a couple individuals who have no real impact (a la Flake, McCain, etc).

I can't see the Senate turning on Trump this late in the game, with as poor a playing field as they have for their own party as is. If they had an unquestionable win, I think they MIGHT clean up, but they did not.

I guess my joke about lighting the USA on fire is irrelevant, as the Grand Old Party is doing a splendid job burning the fucking country to the ground without any urging from people on a near abandoned forum.

Bets on how long Mueller lasts?

And I suppose I should add: bets on time till Civil War II? At this time it seems certain, not potential.

Sorry. I'm under a pretty large amount of stress currently between personal life and the political Hindenburg we have going on, so I'm rather more fragile than I'd like to be.

Even if I wasn't, I apparently have a knack for making ambiguous statements and having no capability for making it clear when I'm serious or not, offline and on. So it was kind of an existing exposed nerve anyhow.

Glad you enjoyed yourself at least.

Edit: Belatedly realized I should clarify: that's not a sarcastic response in the least. It's better someone got some entertainment out of a basically harmless act than everyone involved feeling like an awkward, guilty asshole.

This way it's just me feeling that way, and that's basically my default state.

How about this: I would rather minimize human death and suffering in general. Does that better capture my meaning here than simply "opposition to genocide"?
