so how did people survive over there a couple of decades ago, before they had cars with AC?

well back in the day they had more trees with shade before they chopped em all down to build apartments and strip malls and a lot less hot black asphalt and cars n trucks belching out hot stinking exhaust.

there are some places in florida that are not yet developed where hiking and such is tolerable because they're out in the middle of nowhere, just bring water.
but in the "city" (if you wanna call it that), it's just hot, stinking and flat with no plants.

How did they survive?  It's called "siesta."  ETA:   Been to Spain during the hot summer months?  What do they do with the heat of the afternoon?  They sleep right the fuck through it.  And then if you've a notion to get something done, do it in the early a.m. or late p.m.  Otherwise, everything's all closed up.
