Anyone know anything about Gurdjieff?

Gurdjieff claimed that people do not perceive reality, as they are not conscious of themselves, but live in a state of hypnotic "waking sleep".

"Man lives his life in sleep, and in sleep he dies." Gurdjieff taught that each person perceived things from a completely subjective perspective. Gurdjieff stated that maleficent events such as wars and so on could not possibly take place if people were more awake. He asserted that people in their typical state function as unconscious automatons, but that a man can wake up and experience life more fully.

From what I'm reading, Discordianism = Gurdjieff + Absurdity.

Well, Gurdjieff seems to have a "three brains" model, emotional, physical, and intellectual... He then proposed ways to "wake them up".

So, we could take the 8-circuit model and tweak it to fit.  But that can get Lo5 if you're not careful.

I have "beelzebub's tales to his grandson" in my bookshelf but I have never gotten very far. It's pretty dense reading, allegorical like hell for 1300 pages. I liked the foreword though.

Gurdjieff = AWESOME

I know bits and pieces of this Discordian Saint. 

He'd advocate a constant affirmation of "I AM" over and over (apparently a Sufi thing?).

He'd have these incredibly elaborate dinner parties and start fucking with one of his disciples, then encourage everyone else to gang up on insulting the disciple.  When the disciple was thoroughly in pain Gurdjieff would stop and point out that if the disciple was "sleeping" or not aware of his emotions.

The anecdotes are awesome.

They say Gurdjieff was an 8 on the enneagram.
