We're not hearing much over here, mostly on account of the news is preoccupied with the presidential thing.

Not great, overall.

Fishermen have realised they've been fucked, as have musicians, hauliers etc.

1800 dead a day is helping keep it out of the rags here. That and most would now need to do a classic change of heart and start denouncing the whole thing. Which is also unlikely as their proprietors seem to be doing OK.

Pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

Yeah, I saw the thing where Elton John is more or less swearing vendetta.

It could have been a hell of a lot worse.

The fishermen I dont feel sorry for at all, the fishing industry called for brexit to increase their quotas which were limited previously.
They got what they wished for, their quotas are increased.

In exchange they have permanently lost the market they sell to.

Yeah, on a day to day level not much has changed for the majority of people yet, industries like fishing aside.

But that may change. The Tories are going to make the ECHR their "culture war" platform, and they're very likely to destroy legislation on workers rights in the UK like the Working Time Directive. Along with whatever stupid shit we do to antagonise Europe along the way (which will see retaliatory tariffs slapped on us), things could be very different in 12-18 months.

Eu is talking about using its Security clauses (seize supply chains in times of crises) to block export of Covid Vaccines over a row with supply.
EU ordered too late, but wish to make up the numbers by prioritizing Vaccine made in EU for EU countries.
So its not even out of Jan and were are entering a protectionism war.

I'm already seeing a level of friction on imports/exports that is rather alarming.  Over on DP, there's some sweater-vest who keeps saying how awesome it all is, because trade with the EU is bad, because they send things to the UK and only exports should be allowed.

There's over 100 of us in this meat-suit. You'd think it runs like a ship, but it's more like a hundred and ten angry ghosts having an old-school QuakeWorld tournament, three people desperately trying to make sure the gamers don't go hungry or soil themselves, and the Facilities manager weeping in the corner as the garbage piles high.

Seriously, what happens if you have, say, a goldfish in a relatively large tank, right, and the tank is permitted to export its cruddy poo water but not to import new clean water?

Same fucking difference. This should be fucking obvious to a third grader.

I understand that kind of insistence on self-reliance has been a spectacular success in North Korea.

Yes, the combination of Covid-related absences and new regime at the border is something of a double-whammy at the moment. Not that I imagine it would be significantly better without Covid, but it is, you know, contributing to the whole mess.

The government is also advising UK companies to set up shop in the EU, while paying EU citizens in the UK to fuck off (literally a BNP policy, 15 years ago). I'm still not seeing it hitting majorly at a retail level, there have been some shortages but nothing critical nor completely sold out for long...but as friction increases and stockpiles are depleted, that will of course also get worse.

Report flashed across my feed the other day reckoned we've lost about 1.4 million foreign workers since brexit and our suicidal covid strategy came into effect. So the good news is all the dumb bastards who lost their jobs to foreigners will have job opportunities now. Sure, they'll be the kind of jobs that only desperate romanians were prepared to do for minimum wage back when minimum wage was something you could realistically hope to earn, before we did away with the eurocratic evil bastards who mandated that human rights shouldn't be one of those optional luxury items on the balance sheet but if that's not good enough it's their fault for not specifying they wanted jobs that didn't carry a higher than average suicide rate. Hell mend 'em :lulz:

In other news, now that the finance sector has jumped on blockchain the government will pretty much just have to cede control of currency once and for all and my tax contributions become optional so I'm not forced to piss away my hard earned cash on tory party members redecorating or bombing the living shit out of little brown kids I don't really give much of a fuck about. So they can pretty much forget about me chipping in on the "austerity" caper this time around. I'll be over in the corner eating expensive black market popcorn and watching their Rome burn 8)

The red tape parade.
The Tories have given instruction not to use the B word any more because its quickly become a way to collect losses and a bunch of small losses in every area.

It's gone better than expected, it seems the deal kept a lid on all the worst outcomes, but rhe first year seems to have been a net cost rather than benefit

Even from the often debatable "controlled Borders and immigration" a record number of migrants made the crossing because the uk doesnt have anywhere to deport them back to
