Work in Progress
This is not the first Dreaming. There have been many Dreamings before this one, but all of them have ended.
We don't know why a Dreaming ends. The end of a Dreaming is hardly even noticed in the Waking World. Usually, it coincides with a shift in the collective unconscious.
Echoes of the Past
Occasionally, we recover artifacts from Dreamings past. A few books have been recovered which hint at .
A few Dreams sometimes manage to escape their plane's destruction.
The Last Dreaming
We know the most about the previous Dreaming. We know it that millions of Dreams lived there, but they remained isolated from each other by unnavigable mists.
There was a great silver city in the heart of the Dreaming where sat a Vision high council. A fae used his glamour to disguise himself, and infiltrated the high council. He was named court wizard, and gained access to tomes of forbidden lore. In secret, he performed a ritual which opened a rift in the Dreaming, a tear through which monsters, called Dark Sides, emerged. The city was overrun, and had to be abandoned. To prevent the unrelenting spread of the monsters, the final act of the council was to perform a ritual which cloaked the Dreaming in mist.
The Visions created this mist to protect it from the Dark Sides. We are unclear what these Dark Sides actually were. They may have been creatures from the moon's umbra (the dark side of the moon), or they might have been related to a type of fae, called a Sidhe.
Stymied by the mists, the Dark Sides were unable to organize a true assault on the Dreaming.
The current Dreaming
The current Dreaming is different from any other. One of the prominent characteristics of this Dreaming is a place called the Aether. It is both a place and not a place - more of a communication frequency for Dreams. Much like the Waking World's Internet, the Aether can be accessed from nearly any computer.
When a Dream connects to the Aether, he is able to access the Archive, a record kept by all Dreams of their activities.
It is perhaps the Dreaming's desire to pass forward some artifact for future Dreamings to learn from.
The new evolution includes the Aether, a
