update:  I found it criminal that we didn't have The Machine(tm) material on the wiki.  So, I started putting it up.  It's culled from the "What is the Machine?" thread.  The thread is 13 pages long and what I posted covers the first two.  I'll work on it more later but I just wanted to get something on there.
