Because we really could have everything we wanted, if Obama would quit being a pussy/socialist/turncoat/etc./etc.. The problem with politics is nobody wants to compromise because it makes them feel weak and cheated. And if you do compromise, you're spineless and you're "turning your back on your base." FFS. Apparently, Obama was elected to be the president of Day Care.

The majority of Americans, according to polls, wanted single payer healthcare.  Obama secretly bargained it away for...what, again, exactly?

But sowwy that criticizing the Boy Prince for his inherent bitchness upsets you.  Politics after all, is the art of putting no pressure on your candidates so they will then do what you don't want...or something.  God forbid someone should try and make Obama pay for political support. It should be given freely, like candy.

No, jackass, this isn't about supporting Obama at all. I don't blindly support the guy, as you might infer from other posts of mine. I'm more pro-Obama than most people around here only because I'm a bit less cynical. But as you know there are a million variables to consider in any political maneuver, and "what the people want" is hardly at the top of the list. Considering that Obama heads a government composed of Democrats who are afraid of their own shadows and Republicans who already have him painted as an Outsider and are chomping at the bit to tear him apart, his biggest mistake has been to give in too fast on key issues, but I don't think that is what he set out to do.

He is also facing an economic situation that is far from easy, a foreign policy landscape where he has very little wiggle room in any direction, and domestic issues where the Left thinks he's a pansy and the Right is practically calling for revolution. He has more on his plate than appeasing the Left's desire for socialist reform, even if that's what he should be doing to keep the country afloat in the long run. He also has to navigate through the dangerous political reality that if he moves to far, not only will his efforts mostly fail in Congress, but anything he does push through will be immediately repealed (and then some) when the People are turned against him in the next election.
