Lamanite - Your rant basically described my current 'book of the week' (End of Faith by Sam Harris). I think this book might suit your current mood. He unflinchingly tears all faiths a new one and still manages to crack jokes.

Unless they have pictures, books annoy me. Maybe it's because of my arrogance that I feel most books I come across I can write better. It's very rare that books suprise me, but then again I don't read that often.
