PD may suddenly accelerate to dangerous speeds.  If PD splits open, do not look directly at resulting goo.  PD is still legal in 14 states.

QuoteFrom an Editorial in American Laboratory magazine

Wise people are characterized by:

-patience and the exercise of restraint

-being open minded while always staying teachable

-sensitive--unbiased and fair, while constantly maintaining a multidimensional perspective on the human experience

-visionary--always approaching life from a proactive and holistic point of view

-perceptive--adept at using good judgement to resolve problems in win-win ways that are not self serving

-always attentive, observant and shrewd enough to ask the right questions

-introspective and insightful

-leads a virtuous life

-properly prioritizes--knows whats worth doing and whats not, and likewise what cannot or should not be done and what can and should (like realizing people can only change themselves)

-foresight--the ability to anticipate and prevent rather than just reacting

-Moderation

-nothing to prove--not control freaks, are humble self confident and sincere, as well as genuine.

--stays true to their principles.

-the ability to think outside the box

Darth Cupcake

I like the inclusion of "leads a virtuous life" snuck in there. That one is so incredibly subjective. Who makes the decisions about whether or not a life is virtuous? And what does virtue have to do with wisdom?
Be the trouble you want to see in the world.

Jasper

I think it doesn't matter what your virtues are, so long as you follow them.

Shit

Virtue is almost synonymous with wisdom, unless you're a "Bobby", in which case you're supposed to confuse wisdom and folly.  There's a lot of "Bobbers" in this world.  I think they're kinda funny, but they're also idiots.
So long, and thanks for all the shit.

I am willing to subscribe to this newsletter of thought.

I tend to have too much of a knee-jerk reaction upon seeing the word "virtue," which is something I should avoid. Knee-jerk reactions ftl :sad:

I knee jerks all the time. My knees are pretty solid, and are more reliable than my fists.

Buncha crap.

Wisdom is knowing when to punch a fucker, and when to wait for a better time.

That is all.
" It's just that Depeche Mode were a bunch of optimistic loveburgers."
- TGRR, shaming himself forever, 7/8/2017

"Billy, when I say that ethics is our number one priority and safety is also our number one priority, you should take that to mean exactly what I said. Also quality. That's our number one priority as well. Don't look at me that way, you're in the corporate world now and this is how it works."
- TGRR, raising the bar at work.

Lies

Wisdom is knowing how to pretend to be TGRR's friend before you convince him that you'd be worthwhile visiting and waiting until he has his back turned before you stab him for being a cop. :mrgreen:
- So the New World Order does not actually exist?
- Oh it exists, and how!
Ask the slaves whose labour built the White House;
Ask the slaves of today tied down to sweatshops and brothels to escape hunger;
Ask most women, second class citizens, in a pervasive rape culture;
Ask the non-human creatures who inhabit the planet:
whales, bears, frogs, tuna, bees, slaughtered farm animals;
Ask the natives of the Americas and Australia on whose land
you live today, on whose graves your factories, farms and neighbourhoods stand;
ask any of them this, ask them if the New World Order is true;
they'll tell you plainly: the New World Order... is you!

Thurnez Isa

only a true friend would stab TGRR in the back
Through me the way to the city of woe, Through me the way to everlasting pain, Through me the way among the lost.
Justice moved my maker on high.
Divine power made me, Wisdom supreme, and Primal love.
Before me nothing was but things eternal, and eternal I endure.
Abandon all hope, you who enter here.

Dante

AFK

I would change the second line to read:  "Wise people can be characterized by:"

Because one could argue that someone who has "wisdom" has some of those traits.
But as TGRR points out, there are other options for wisdom.
In the end, defining wisdom is like defining peace as we saw in another thread.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

Cain

Wisdom: a method whereby old people can pass off bullshit anecdotes and untested (and usually banal) thoughts about life without it being critically examined.

Anyone who tells you anything else is a liar, an idiot or both.

LHX

wisdom is that which allows you to save yourself

EDIT: maybe

AFK

Defining wisdom is like pulling teeth.
At least, that's what my friend the Dentist says.
Cynicism is a blank check for failure.

LHX

prolly not even wise to define wisdom
