A more righteous bump, due to leaving all the other dross behind from that thread.

I concur with Payne.

I always liked this post. I think it's good to be bumped.

I would like to figure out some way to incorporate it into my compilation, but without it seeming like the only particularly partisan religious bit in there, if you will. If anyone has suggestions on how to do that, I'm open. I think I could make it work as is, or just with a touch of tweaking or intro or some such, but I'd like to hear ideas as well.

The only thing that makes it seem like religious partisanship (to anyone NOT a muslim, at least) is the fact it's called the attributes of Allah, and the arabic.

Take those out, and you're set.

I'm in process of reading BIP, so forgive any utterly inane questions ... however, is there any intention in the BIP project to incorporate a mythological "wrapper" to encompass the message? Like the ancient Greek stories were used (with immense creative liberty) to portray the original PD?

If this is the case, is there any discussion on using the grounds of both Xtianity and Islam as that wrapper? These being the most prevelant religious topics of the day. They both decend from the same base, so perhaps a psuedo-mythology concocted from their shared history.

1. what's so great about this allah list? i don't get it?

2. forteetu: mythological wrapper, yes. basing it on xtianity and islam .. i'm not so sure, but on the other hand, it would reach a lot of people that way, fuck with xtianity and islam, and i just don't like it but that may be something that needs to be shaken loose in myself.

1. the length
2. the existence of seemingly contradictory claims describing the same element
3. the fact that they are all human attributes as well

So far, no.  It has been shown elsewhere that the BIP metaphor is somewhat like a META-phor, in that it encompasses many other things.  If well-understood, a person can get behind the BIP metaphor while being a Jew, Christian, Muslim, Atheist, Agnostic, or whatever.

The difference is, they're usually not funamentally fanatical about it, as the BIP shows that their religion is simply the way a certain part of their cell is shaped.

Well, the idea that springs to mind is a fictionalised mythology with a basis in the early history of judeo-christianity and islam. They are all decended from the same lineage anyway

and as for shaking loose, i relate ... baptised a catholic, christian school upbringing ...  took time to deprogram all that shit, still finding more and more as I go along

Agreed and using the PD as a reference, I think the inclusion of a mythology which spread across multiple cultures, the 5 apostles, worked in much the same fashion.

Yes, I get this message very clearly from what I have read of the BIP so far.

Agreed.  However, I don't think we should build a mythos into the BIP, because then one would have to buy into the mythos in order to buy into BIP.  And selling BIP is hard enough as it is.

I disagree.  If you make it transparent enough one wouldn't really have to buy into it.

Also it could come in later so that the reader would already have a sense of what is going on.  But then again I am sleep deprived and need a smoke break

Rza, I cordially invite you to put pen to paper and introduce mythos to the BIP.  Good luck.
