Do something seems to be good advice. However, I'm not sure that action will result in a Better World (mostly cause I think that happens in the eye of the beholder... no not the D&D kind).

However, we can fix our own damned lives and that seems to be a helluva lot better than what most people are doing at this point.

Yes, and we should.  But then what?  I think many people start trying to "fix" their lives but then get caught up in that (because it could always get better, right?)  and lose sight of their ability and desire to help fix other peoples lives. 

(I do realize that many if not most don't want our help, (or our kind of help) but that is why we must help them without them even knowing it.  To quote Futurama's 'God', "When you do things right, people wont be sure you have done anything at all.") <---Is this why the Illu minati are so secret?  Are they those that are fighting 'THEM'?  Getting of topic.

And you say better is in the eye of the beholder and this seems to hold true for many or most ideas of a better world.  But we can all agree on some things.  Nobody wants bombs falling around them, (even if they want to drop them elswhere.)  Nobody wants to fight in the street over a piece of meat.  Nobody wants to be hated just for the color of their skin or their religious upbringing (even if they do it themselves).  So yes, the action I propose is to set a "brilliant fucking example," and to shout at the top of our minds, what we as individuals see as right.  Even if we are wrong.  Just don't stick out, don't get caught.

I've given a lot of thought to this and I agree with what you're saying (in a general sense). In fact, I have a theory about the Illuminati. Here goes:

Most human beings are "programmed" from birth by their genetics. They are then further programmed by their parental figures, their surroundings, their tribe and their own experiences. I think Leary's circuit I-IV model might be a good description of this process. Your actions in this world, then are based on your current experiences as manipulated by genetic programming, your tribal imprints and your past experiences. Most people seem to respond through this system automatically. Occasionally, something will change their programming, either through a system shock (such as brainwashing, near death experience), adoption of a new tribe (like converting from X religion to Jehovah's Wittness), or exposure to new memes.

I think that perhaps Illumination may be the direct 'metaprogramming'/'intentional reporgramming' of the human system of consciousness (particularly as relates to perception). This can be done through lots of hard work/yoga/tantra/meditation/etc, or it may be more easily accomplished with the right set, setting and dosage of various psychedelics.

(Now the bit that ties back in with what you were saying),

In the 60's there was easy access to drugs, books on the occult/tantra/etc. and access to huge leaps in understanding human behavior and the potency of perception as it relates to the human experience. One can begin to piece together the possibility that some cadre', cabal, society, or gang of misfits may have put some puzzle pieces together. Further, it might be that they decided (once they had become Illuminated Ones) that the world would be better off with more Illumination. Memetic breadcrumbs could be spread throughout the counter-culture and people who tended to connect with those breadcrumbs would be drawn toward information, which, if put together could help someone figure out 'Illumination'. Since perception is different for everyone, then so to would Illumination.

This may have been the problem with groups that had discovered the concept in the past... they tried to maintain a rigid hierarchy where only one path to Illumination existed. Perhaps because they didn't fully understand the impact of genetics, programming etc.

If this cabal of Illuminati wished for many people to find Illumination, they could not provide a path, but rather would try to keep people from creating a One True view of their revelation.

This might be a way in which some people could 'fix' others through action. Of course, I have no idea what might have happened if such a concept were real... in some sense.
