Also, i dont think discordia attracts any more sociopaths than say, atheism or satanism.

On the subject of Discordian philosophy?ñ I noted a post someone had made on the pedigree of chaos and how we Discordians may have it all backwards and how we may actually be involved in worshipping an allegory of Satan?ñ
Aside from going into a discussion on the infinite variability of a waveform in an uncertain and undefined region of space I'd like to point something out.
Discordianism is a silly religion and a serious philosophy. To me, when Omar and Mal were putting this down they described a whacked-out theology as a deliberate attempt to unveil the truth about religious dogma, and in so doing promote a synthesis of all belief systems in order to promote a more-unified spiritual truth that was accessible to anyone willing to listen. The truth is this; it is not important what one believes in or practices, but the way in which one conducts oneself. If someone finds solace in their beliefs and is comforted by them fine, but to discount all other reasoning on the basis of semantics alone is to occlude one's own eyes to the chaos of the world!
We believe in chaos; ergo, we also believe that we could be wrong, because in chaos not even uncertainty is certain.
The principia openly acknowledges the possibility of the nonexistence and/or allaphorical existence of Eris:

"?ñconfide that sophisticated people like himself recognize that Eris is a Figurative Symbol for an Ineffable Metaphysical Reality and that The Erisian Movement is really more like a poem than like a science?ñ" (Taken from Lord Omar's primer for Erisian evangelists (Principia Discordia))

If Eris is willing to acknowledge herself that she may be wrong to the point of being nonexistent, what does that say to us? Be prepared to be wrong, be prepared for the fact that you could be the biggest ass there ever was, and even preparing for that eventuality is no ward against it.

Consider also what we are told about the elder Malacalypse:

"5. THE ELDER MALACLYPSE
A wandering Wiseman of Ancient Mediterrania ("Med-Terra" or middle earth), who followed a 5-pointed Star through the alleys of Rome, Damascus, Baghdad, Jerusalem, Mecca and Cairo, bearing a sign that seemed to read "DOOM". (This is a misunderstanding. The sign actually read "DUMB". Mal-1 is a Non-Prophet.) Patron and namesake of Mal-2. Patron of The Season of The Aftermath. Holyday: Oct 24."

This story is a perfect illustration (weather or not it's true) because we are told that all the world saw was "DOOM," when it was actually "DUMB" Mal-1 was deriding them, calling them stupid and yet only the person who could see the word DUMB would not be. *AHA!*

Socrates: "The only thing I can be certain of is, that I know nothing."

By admitting to the fact that you are a serious Greyfaced jackass you can at least become capable of bettering yourself, this doesn't necessarily mean that you will.

So are you a doomed-ass? Or are you a dumb-ass?
Just personally?ñ I'm a Dumbass and damn proud!

But I seriously Digress (as is my wont)?ñ
The silliness the craziness, the 20-pound chain letters, all of it is an ancillary benefit to something which is mean to liberate the self, I shall now paraphrase the goddess Eris herself.

"?ñI have come to tell you that you are free. Many ages ago, My consciousness left man, that he might develop himself. I return to find this development approaching completion, but hindered by fear and by misunderstanding.
You have built for yourselves psychic suits of armor, and clad in them, your vision is restricted, your movements are clumsy and painful, your skin is bruised, and your spirit is broiled in the sun.
I am chaos. I am the substance from which your artists and scientists build rhythms. I am the spirit with which your children and clowns laugh in happy anarchy. I am chaos. I am alive, and I tell you that you are free."

"?ñTell constricted mankind that there are no rules, unless they choose to invent rules. Keep close the words of Syadasti: 'TIS AN ILL WIND THAT BLOWS NO MINDS. And remember that there is no tyranny in the State of Confusion. For further information, consult your pineal gland."

Tyranny requires order, therefore a chaotic mind cannot eat itself! FNORD! When Eris wandered out for 3,000 years she may have gone to start up a brothel in Brazil, or she may have been waiting for something, for the moment when we could be responsible enough to hear her message and handle it's wisdom. She herself is a deity that knows she came from the universal source/Brahmin/god force/Forever and her goal is the liberation of people from their delusions of pain and suffering.

It is with a heavy heart that I admit that I too have fallen prey to the curse of greyface. I have ranted and raved about conspiratorial links and government oppression, I have rallied against the very institution that is supposed to support me and my kin. But that isn't the point is it? When you give evil form and name, you give it power. We see evil in the governments and the militaries, corruption in our corporations, and devils in our own neighbours. We've given evil the most powerful positions in the world by damning everyone that stands up and takes the position: good or bad, we make them evil by virtue of centuries of loathing for the rich and powerful. If a god can be your friend, and an elemental your lover, why is a CEO the devil incarnate?

It doesn't have to stop today, or tomorrow, but if we are more willing to have faith in those we appoint and more willing to support those who want power and responsibility can't it change? It's naive of me to say that, and cynical to call me naive isn't it? Double-bind. That's just poor semantics though. We don't really need an anarchic state (and speaking as an anarchist I should really know) to have authenitc freedom, anarchy is an inner thing. If there's chaos in your mind, the evil can't get out, because you're too busy counting precious mao buttons to care about evil. So why can't we educate the leaders of tomorrow like this?
I hope one of my kids runs for prime-minister of Australia one day.

Well put, Trollax, as always.

I agree with you. Discordia is, to me, not a religion that envelopes the whole of my beliefs... but rather an angle from which I can approach the dismantling and restructuring of those beliefs I have.

Eris reminds of of Kali, only less severe.

Kali, being the hindu goddess of death, is also seen to them as being a creationary force, and a mother figure. A god of drastic change, chaos, and rebirth from chaos.

Deities are to me, not deities, but personifications of the forces which have deified them.

Eris is chaos, but I see in her the Chaos that is possibility... not the chaos which is destruction.

The modern Satan represents different ideals, primarily the elevation of self interest over all other things. This is not chaos.
