I liked how they introduced her, like "her mother died in an insane asylum thinking she was Queen Victoria" and my thought was, I like where I think this is going. I was not disappointed.

There are some that say that humans are digitizing themselves, becoming sterile and detached like the machines they build, but that talking AI robot that those eggheads at MIT built probably is more willing to feel and humanize then the species that created her.
In order to learn AI will have to recognize sadness and pain, can't withdraw from it with happy pills and within the numbing glowing rays in the living room.
It seems to me that humans are not like machines, but have had the sun shadows their miserable existence and decided that life is not fit for their egos, and choose to withdraw.
Hopefully the robots will show more loyalty, more compassion and have more fun then their creators even did.

Well yes, but what I would want is something that steps above (most of) humanity by *always* analyzing anything new, or for a sufficiently advanced machine, doing this to the extent that it steps above all of humanity, at least in terms of a BIP break out.

Actually I want a race of them, if we're going to have robotic overlords anyway, they may as well be interesting ones.

AI is a vain hope at best. We can barely understand our own consciousness, therefore how are we expected to create one. A machine is only as smart as the guy that programmed it.

that's my hunch too.

Humans are great at seeing their intelligence in things. That's why they personify cats and the like. But if something doesn't think like us, I think we'll have a hard time spotting it.
